Minor League Ball Gameday, April 15

Anthony Rendon - USA TODAY Sports

Good afternoon prospect watchers. Let's get right to it.

UPCOMING MINOR LEAGUE BALL FEATURES

***Charlie Drysdale will have an in-person game report from Las Vegas vs. Colorado Springs, the game featuring top Mets prospect Zack Wheeler as well as Rockies third base prospect Nolan Arenado.

***Joe21 will take a look at how the big Curtis Granderson trade looks now for the Yankees.

***I am working on Prospect Retros for Andres Galarraga and Carlos Delgado.

COOL STUFF THAT HAPPENED APRIL 14

***Yesterday's Gameday thread has the standard daily highlights from around the minors.

***Cincinnati Reds prospect Robert Stephenson had a tough outing for Low-A Dayton, giving up eight hits and six runs in 2.2 innings against Great Lakes. He did fan five so it wasn't a total disaster.

***Washington Nationals prospect Anthony Rendon went 4-for-4 with two doubles for Double-A Harrisburg.

***Oakland Athletics outfield prospect Michael Choice went 4-for-5 with two homers and two doubles for Triple-A Sacramento.

***St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect James Ramsey went 2-for-5 for High-A Palm Beach. The former Florida State University star is now hitting .417/.523/.722 on the season.

***Arizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect Kyle Schepel threw seven no-hit innings for Low-A South Bend last night, fanning nine. I don't have a scouting report on him. I know he went to college at Grand Valley State, pitched in the Frontier League, and signed as an undrafted free agent last fall.

THINGS TO WATCH FOR TODAY

***Today's slate of minor league games.

***Red Sox prospect Anthony Ranaudo takes the mound for Double-A Portland against Binghamton.

***Veteran major leaguer Francisco Liriano makes a start for High-A Bradenton in the Pirates system, against Miami Marlins prospect Jose Urena and Jupiter.

***San Diego Padres prospect Donn Roach and his unholy, eldritch sinker takes the mound for Double-A San Antonio against Springfield.

***Diamondbacks prospect Archie Bradley makes the start for High-A Visalia against Chris Jensen and Modesto.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

***Chris Slade recaps the weekend in college baseball.

***
Rick Randall at Lookout Landing reminds us that the Mariners have several impressive pitching prospects beyond Danny Hultzen and Taijuan Walker. He focuses on Tyler Pike, Victor Sanchez, and Luiz Gohara.

***Chris St. John looks at Rookies in the Clutch.

***Lance Rinker looks at team building. Is it better to have a superstar or two, or a bunch of decent players?

***How does Matt Harvey compare to Tom Seaver? Ryan Potter looks, and the answer may surprise you.

***Over at Fangraphs, JD Sussman takes a look at Cincinnati Reds prospect Tony Cingrani. Is he ready for a major league trial?

***Mark Smith looks at the Lexington Legends and shares his view of Kansas City Royals prospects Bubba Starling, Raul (ex-Adalberto) Mondesi, Cam Gallagher, and Miguel Almonte. He has some particularly pertinent observations about Starling's approach to hitting.
