Midseason promotions

As we've reached the All Star breaks at Low-A and High-A, and with the others just around the corner, I thought it might be helpful to have one consolidated place to both throw out names of guys who are likely to get promoted and then track actual moves.

I'll lead off with the Padres, who have already promoted 83% of their minor leaguers to the big club for at least a few days this year...

Locks to move up:

Donn Roach should fly directly from Winston-Salem (Cal/Car All-Star Game) to San Antonio. In 88.1 Cal League innings, he's at 1.94 ERA with a 73:14 ratio.

Adys Portillo has been waiting a while to do this, but he owns a 1.92 ERA with 62K/29BB and only 40 hits allowed in 65.2 innings.

Kevin Quackenbush just keeps doing it out of the bullpen in Elsinore. Since he made his pro debut a year ago today, he has worked 71.2 innings. He has allowed SIX earned runs, struck out 104, walked 26 and surrendered 46 hits. Take that everyone who knocked all the senior signs in the 6th-10th rounds this year!

Others to watch:

Rymer Liriano is on an absolute tear. I'd still leave him in Elsinore for the full season given his challenges at each transition. He only turns 21 Wednesday, so you've got time.

Jace Peterson has put a lot of pieces together, but I think he'd be best served spending the rest of the season with a pair of very good infield coaches in Ft. Wayne.

Cory Spangenberg has dropped back off a bit in the last few weeks and Jonathan Galvez finally has his feet back under him in San Antonio. Let Corey stay put for the rest of the campaign.

Tommy Medica - If not for all the medical issues on his shoulder, he would be a great prospect. As it is, he at least deserves a chance to move up, but with Nate Freiman ensconced at first base and only a sometimes-DH rule in the Texas League, that may not happen. He's worth showing up early to watch hit BP.

Matt Wisler has been totally under the radar as a teenage righty in the MWL, but he's putting up very solid numbers. I would think he stays put there nonetheless.
