The Pirates own the eighth pick, forty-fifth pick, sixty-ninth pick, 103rd pick,
Let's talk about some players to target with the #8 pick first. The last two years the Pirates have selected pitchers in the first round. For this pick, I plan to draft the best player available, no matter what position they play.
First of all, if Buxton, Zunino, Gausman, or Correa falls to number eight, we have to to take them right? What about Fried? He probably has the best chance to fall, but UCLA is very good at keeping their recruits away from the draft.
The Pirates don't have a ton of money available, so that's something to keep in mind.
I think Marrero could be a valid option here. I'm still considering whether his offensive ceiling is enough to take him at the #8, but he's pretty close to a sure thing. Also, there is no freaking chance that we are taking Cecchini above Marrero.
What do you guys think? Should we take Marrero? What about Richie Shaffer? His stock has climbed so much for a college player, but he might have the best power projection of any player in this draft. I really like Almora but he could be very expensive to sign.
