Hey all, I figured I would throw this up real quick to start some discussion going about what the Mariners should do at the 3rd overall pick as well as their picks in the next couple of rounds. In the first round my top 2 prospects are Buxton and Zunino with Correa not far off of them. I would expect one of Buxton or Zunino to be available at 3 but I want to have some back-up options.

Some may notice that my top 3 players are hitters but it should be said that I do not have anything against drafting another pitcher at this spot if we feel they are the best player available. It should also be noted that I do feel that Montero can play catcher for a good while in the future and may be the catcher for years to come but that does not mean that if Zunino is the best player in the draft I would pass on him. I would like to go BPA as much as possible but do like when you can match BPA with good fundamental skills.

As for the 2nd Round, who we take may depend much on who we take in the 1st round. As we do wish to keep this on par with a normal draft budget, if we were to take Buxton or Correa in the first, they are likely to cost more than say Zunino. This may not allow us to take that high schooler who slips but steer us more towards the college player. If Zunino is the pick, we may be able to catch that slider a little easier.
