Really interesting piece on how the Angels landed Mike Trout in the 2009 draft that I think draft fans will love reading. Rosenthal notes that both the Angels and Yankees had Trout #2 overall on their boards - after Stephen Strasburg - which goes to show you how team's perceptions of players in the draft can be radically different than what we say. After reading this, I dug back into that 2009 draft, and found Keith Law's old mock draft. For the Yankees, he mentioned that he's not sure who it is, but that the Yankees were sitting back waiting for one particular player that they'd be willing to throw their checkbook at. In retrospect, that must have been Trout.
