Suggestion Thread
The Anthony Gose/Starling Marte Prospect Smackdown will be posted tomorrow morning. Current plans have the Top 100 list coming out on Friday. In the meantime, feel free to make some suggestions for what you would like to see: more smackdown topics, prospect retros, anything else you have in mind.

Post-hype prospects
In the spirit of Alex Gordon’s breakout and the seeming emergence of Matt Wieters last year, I’m wondering if you could look at particularly interesting and/or instructive post-hype prospects to see why there touted, how/why they initially fell short, and how/why they established themselves in the long run.

Posted this in the last suggestions thread
I like this idea a lot, and had a similar idea that I posted in the last suggestions thread but was a little late to the party so I’m not sure if it was seen:
Given what Alex Gordon and Brandon McCarthy did last year, maybe a list of former top prospects who haven’t yet lived up to their potential but for whom it’s not too late to turn things around? Perhaps it’s too hard to predict, although in retrospect Gordon’s breakout maybe shouldn’t have been so surprising…
Also, given your recent exploration into former elite prospects and where they are now, would it be possible for you to put together a complete list of A and A- prospects through the years? (Just names and grades, not necessarily what was written about them.)

Questions..
Do you still rank Nestor Molina as #1 prospect in Jays organization?
How high do you rank him in your top 100? Is it above top 20 as d’Arnaud
cracks into top 20 in most top 100 lists?
You know what I would like John...
A sort of map of where the top prospects hail from in America. Just where are the baseball hotbeds and what kind of effect that could have on scouting/underrating/overrating etc. Effects of cold weather or warm and rural or urban. I think that would be a fascinating idea to look at break down.

martin perez vs manny banuelos or Tyrell Jenkins vs Aj Cole

prospect retro: Michael Jordan
I was watching 30 for 30: Jordan Rides the Bus, and I was curious what rating Jordan would’ve had as a baseball prospect.
I would love
A definitive layout of what the scouting scale equates to in normal terms. For instance, if I have “7” power, does that equate to 35 home runs in the majors? 40?
Obviously, other factors would come into play, as I can have 8 power but 0 hit tool and therefore can’t hit home runs, but I would like to know what the actual numbers equate to.
The SB department in the link
is a little skewered. That’s way to big a margin where plus speed = 13-29SB
If you’re talking about the 20-80 scouting scale, 50 is average and every 10 away from the average is a standard deviation, I believe.

Top 100 List comparisons
Your list versus Baseball America’s versus Keith Laws versus Baseball Prospectus’. Talk about similarities and differences, etc.
I'll be doing this
Shortly after John posts his list. If you’re familiar with what I did last year, it will be very similar.

Gioloto vs. Tailllon smackdown.
Maybe a best tools ranking of some kind? Best fatstball, best hit tool, best defense, and so on..
mock draft!
now that MLB bonus baby is gone, so, sadly, is the mock draft that was put up.
Snoochies
also
to go along with the college notes, maybe something like “players who rose” and “players who dropped”
Snoochies
Will do
once the season progresses a little.

I m trying to do projections for season 2012....
so I would suggest something like projections for prospects coming to the majors this year….Montero, Mesoraco, Teheran, Moore etc
before there was law, there were the Cowboys!!!
Best Quad A guys out there
and why they are Quad A and any potential to break that mold

Best Tools/Skills
I’d love to see a break down of the best tools (or your 7 skills) in the minors. Maybe list a top ten for each. Thanks, John.
Machado/Profar
I’d really like to see a SMACKDOWN between these two guys. They are six months apart in age and Machado is far more polished and on a quicker route, but Profar seems to be projected as the better MLB player…. Seems like a great contrast..

Organizations that are the best
at drafting or evaluating talent. For example, the Rays have a bunch of great home grown talent but they also have had a history of very early draft picks. Not to say their success is solely attributed to that (Matt Moore was an 8th round pick) but I would be interested in who you think are the top organizations that make the most of the draft and talent evaluation.
Harry Doyle: The post-game show is brought to you by...
[searches through his papers]
Harry Doyle: Christ, I can't find it. To hell with it.
Maybe something about the top breakout relief prospects
Last year you introduced me to Addison Reed…who could be this year’s Reed? (Kind of similar to the next Kimbrel post that Ray did, but on a minor league level)
