Fantasy Draft Prospect Draft: Hamilton, Jenkins, May, Erlin, Cole, etc

Hey I need some help with my last pick of a 14 team dynasty fantasy draft. My team is in full-fledged rebuilding mode and not really looking to truly compete for at least another 2-3 years, so I'm looking for upside and impact players (but obviously I don't just want people with upside). I'm leaning towards Hamilton or Erlin, but there's a bunch of pretty intriguing names. Here are some of the top names available...

EDIT: It is a 5x5 H2H Dynasty League with Farm System

Tyrell Jenkins

Trevor May

Anthony Gose

Billy Hamilton

Billy Hamiton

He could be a fantasy stud. He should be Michael Bourn with more steals. Imagine that at SS or 2B. Hamilton is very underrated in fantasy circles right now, and that will change if he does the same thing in AA or AAA.

It isn't pretty

But, with his speed, he doesn’t have to be that particularly adept with the bat, and I haven’t seen anything to tell me that he can’t hit enough in the bigs to hit at least .260-.270 (again, factoring in his speed).

+1

For fantasy, you have to go for “home runs.” Hamilton may or may not be the best real prospect on this list, but he could potentially be a beast for fantasy. And hey, if it does not work out, you can always drop him and go pick someone else up. Replacement level is always incredibly higher for fantasy.

Javier Baez

might be the highest rated consensus wise on lists I’m guessing, and I’d probably take him. His bat probably has the highest upside too…

"highest rated consensus"

From what I have seen, Baez is no where near the “highest rated consensus wise on lists.” Of the players listed, normally Gose, Hamilton, May, Jenkins, Cole, and Erlin rank higher.

Baez scares me

I usually don’t like high school bats. Especially after Josh Sale burned me last season ago (though he still could pan out). Though I did take Starling in the 1st round in our midseason draft.

Who you select depends in large part on the type of league

There are a litany of such fantasy posts, however, fantasy leagues are very diverse and a player in one league may be far more or less valuable in another. So much depends on scoring system and roster depth.

Hamilton is potentially very valuable in standard 5×5 leagues, especially roto leagues, where steals are very valuable. However, in leagues that are more power-oriented, obviously, Hamilton’s value takes a hit.

Good point

My bad for not including this. It is a 5×5 H2H Dynasty League.

I'd say your short list

should include Hamilton, Baez, Gose, May, and Jenkins. Potential one-category dominators are hard to come by, so in a 5×5 with steals I’d probably take Hamilton. Baez is a long-term gamble, but the payoff could be enormous if you’re on a 3+ year timetable.

imediate impact; Neill Ramirez, Trevor May, WIll Middlebrooks

2-3 years downt the road? : Mason Williams, Eddie Rosario, Tyrell Jenkins, and maybe Billy HAMILTON
(Quite a bit of risk involved with Billy H. IMO)
