Ryan Eades - Crystal Logiudice-US PRESSWIRE

Ryan Eades has the stuff to be a frontline starter but has yet to rise above the #3 starter for LSU. That won't stop him from being drafted highly in the 2013 Draft.

Ryan Eades, RHP, Louisiana State University
College Junior
Bats/Throws: Right/Right
HT/WT: 6’3"/205
Birthdate: 12/15/91 Age at Draft: 21.61

Eades wasn't looked at as a first round arm out of high school in Slidell, Louisiana. He was on the radar but fell after having shoulder surgery. He dropped to the 19th round (picked by the Rockies), didn't sign, and recovered well from the surgery. That was a win for LSU because he made an immediate impact in their rotation as a freshman. While Eades hasn't been consistently dominant, he has shown flashes of brilliance and potential to be a front of the rotation pitcher if it all comes together.

At 6'3", 205, he has a near ideal pitchers build. His fastball sits in the 90-93 range and can jump up to 95 when he needs it. It has good movement but flattens out as it gets up in the zone. He has the stuff to be a frontline pitcher. He has a sharp breaking curve that can be a swing and miss pitch as well as a solid change that shows potential to be a plus pitch as well. He has a good delivery that he repeats well. There is some effort to it but minimal. He has solid control and doesn't walk a lot of hitters but isn't able to command it all the time. He lacks consistency on locating the pitches.

With his repertoire, Eades should make college hitters look silly on a consistent basis. Maybe that is coming this year but it hasn't to this point. He doesn't strike out as many as I'd like and is more hittable than he should be with his stuff. His lack of consistency and command will likely relegate him to a #3 or 4 starter role in pro ball but there is a chance he exceeds that. Barring injury or total failure, he will be a first round or early supplemental pick.
