Switch hitting corner guy isn't a typical profile player for those positions. The power is underwhelming and the bat is inconsistent but there is a lot of potential.

Playing first base as a college player usually speaks to the lack of athleticism of a player but not Ficociello. He was a shortstop in high school but looked more like a future third baseman. I haven’t seen him play there, so it is all projection and he may lack quickness to make that work. He is fast enough to play a corner outfield spot if that fails. He’s not a fast guy but he runs well enough under way. He is a long, lanky guy who could easily add 25 pounds with strength and conditioning.

At the plate his smooth easy swing and quick wrists don’t make solid contact as often as I want but he hits more than his share of line drives. He won’t be a masher but he could hit 15 homers and that number could increase with maturation. He is a better contact hitter right handed and seems more natural from that side but he has a good approach form both sides. His raw power may be more from the left side, which is good and bad. He may have noticeable platoon splits in power and average.

Ficociello is hard to peg. There have been reports he lacks concentration and doesn’t show the heart a top prospect should. Others say he loves the game and is a hell of a competitor. At the plate you can project him as a .265 hitting first baseman lacking power and a good profile or you can dream that he can handle third base, hit 20 homers and hitting in the .280+ range. He is not easy to project due to the lack of a consistent track record. Either way, I think someone will see him as the latter and take him in the 10-20 range in the draft. What happens from there is anyone’s guess.
