With that being said my trade proposal would look like this:
BOS - of Giancarlo Stanton and rhp Ricky Nolasco
for
MIA - ss/3b Xander Bogarts, of Bryce Brentz, rhp Matt Barnes, and 2b Sean Coyle
First of all, I know many people are going to say "three top prospects, are you crazy!" but look at it this way: Stanton is one year away from arbitration so altogether he has 4 years left on his contract. That would be one top prospect for each year of control they have of Stanton which is not unreasonable by any means, plus they get Ricky Nolasco on top of that. Parting with these prospects shouldn't hurt the Red Sox long term either, given their high revenue and organizational depth of talent, and it would enhance their chances by a wide margin to compete for at least the next few years in the toughest division in baseball. From Boston's side, it is a no brainer in my opinion.
From Miami's perspective, it would give them three young studs to build around plus a good role player at the very least rather than just Stanton whose salary projects to skyrocket in upcoming years if past performance and potential is any indication. From Miami's perspective as well, I think it is a deal that makes sense.
I don't know about you guys , but me personally, as a baseball fan, this trade would get me excited. From Boston's side, it gives you hope after the worst season in years, coming in last place while playing in the toughest division in baseball which is only getting tougher. From Miami's side, it gives fans hope for the future, that Miami is serious about putting the best team on the field in the future. Since the chances of them competing this year are slim to none, the smart thing to do is stockpile as much talent as possible for the future. Just picture a future lineup like this:
Marisnick
Coyle
Yelich
Brentz
LoMo
Bogarts
Realmotto
Hechavarria
With a rotation like this:
Barnes
Turner
Alvarez
Eovaldi
Nicolino/Heaney
I mean, there is a lot of projection and wishful thinking involved, but this is a good place to start as far as minor league talent goes.
