In the initial voting for the 15th round Todd Frazier and Will Middlebrooks tied with 22% of the vote. Sent to a run off, they essentially tied again, with Middlebrooks having just the slightest edge at present with 53% of the vote to 47% for Frazier. From all this it is very clear that these two are next on our list so I'm going to call Middlebrooks 15(a) and Frazier 15(b) and move it along to number 17. Trailing on the round 15 ballot, but headlining the round 17 ballot is Anthony Gose, who got 17% of the vote, followed by Tom Milone 13%, Erasmo Ramirez, 9%, and Starling Marte, Willin Rosario, Wade Miley and Chris Carter all with 4%. Drew Smyly didn't get a vote:
So here is where we are:
1. Mike Trout Outfielder Los Angeles Angels (83%)
2. Bryce Harper Outfielder Washington Nationals (100%)
3. Manny Machado Infielder Baltimore Orioles (47%)
4. Matt Moore, Pitcher, Tampa Bay Rays (45%)
5. Yu Darvish, Pitcher Texas Rangers (48%)
6. Yoenis Cespedes, Outfielder Oakland A's (50%)
7. Andrelton Simmons, shortstop, Atlanta Braves (27%)
8. Matt Harvey, Pitcher New York Mets
9. Jarrod Parker, Pitcher Oakland A's (50%)
10. Jesus Montero, Catcher/dh Seattle Mariners (40%)
11, Yasmani Grandal, catcher, San Diego Padres (44%)
12. Yonder Alonso, First Base, San Diego Padres (32%)
13. Anthony Rizzo, First Base, Chicago Cubs (24%)
14, Devin Mesoraco, Catcher Cincinnati Reds (28%)
15a Will Middlebrooks, Third Base Boston Red Sox (22%) (53% runoff)
15(b) Todd Frazer, 3b/1b/of Cincinnati Reds (22%) (47% runoff)
I'm going to temporarily drop Drew Smyly, but he remains eligible as a write in as are the other players on the temporarily dropped list.
Temporarily dropped: Lance Lynn 0% (round 12), Randall Delgado 0% (round 12), Zack Cozart 0% (round 12), Mike Fiers 0% round 13, Jean Segura 0% (round 14), Drew Smyly (round 15)
I'm going to add Lucas Harrell and David Cooper this round, and bring back AJ Griffin and Ryan Cook.
In no particular order, Kelvin Herrera, Michael Gonzalez, Norichicka Aoki, Robbie Ross and Brett Jackson, are among those I am looking at adding in the coming rounds. Please suggest more names, or your favorites among that group, below. Keep in mind though, that the plan is to go out to # 25 in this poll and then stop, and between those who have been voted in, those on the ballot, those who are temporarily dropped and the names listed immediately above we already have far more than 25 under consideration.
So, who do you think will have the best future performance among last year's rookies in the number 17 slot?
