Update on Chicago Cubs Prospect List

I am still working on the Chicago Cubs prospect list, and hope to have it finished Friday afternoon or evening. Thank you for your patience.

How's Austin Reed?

Big fall or slight bump?

Pretty excited to see the list, as usual. Loads of C+ or straight C’s with plenty of room to go up.
Lots of 2011 names there….I’m still a Vitters fan so I’ll say he’s underrated right now.

Anyone heard anything on what LHP Christian Peters might offer? Could he be a Perez/Banuelos type in a couple of seasons?

other than AzPhil's couple of reports

haven’t heard much else on Pieters. IIRC, did compare him to Cruz, though, so that’s a positive (and a negative I guess).

I’ll be curious where John draws the lines on C+’s. I decided to draw the line in the late 20’s in my list, but I could see a tiny case for earlier, and a case for later.

I'm decidedly lukewarm on the deal

On the one hand, Cashner’s chances of being a starter were getting slimmer. The potential was there, but they would’ve had to keep a tight leash on his innings this year as a starter. If he went another year in the pen, it would’ve gotten harder to build up the stamina and consistency needed to make the switch.

On the other hand, I’m decidedly lukewarm on Rizzo, who I think has gotten a bit over-hyped.

for me

Brett Jackson would still be ahead of Rizzo, but I imagine the majority of folks would have it the other way.

Can you please include

Your ratings for Andrew Cashner and Kyung-Min Na, even though they are now in the Padres system. I would like to see how they rated relative to the rest of the Cubs system.

Na

excellent Cf, arguably best in system, but bat isn’t worth squat right now. Cubs gave him quick a bit (off the top 700K+)

Rizzo & Cashner eligibility?

Would these two still be considered prospects, I know they’ve both had time in the majors?

Rizzo is under 140 at-bats.

Cashner is over 50 IPs pitched though

Cashner, no...

but Rizzo was #1 on the Padres’ list, as a B+. John said he would address traded players once all the lists were complete.

Does anyone have scouting info on Na?

The numbers are completely non-existent, so I guess I’m just hoping scouts think his bat has potential, or something. Because Cates isn’t exactly a throw-in scrub.

yeah

Cates is what easily tips the deal to a win for me as a Cubs fan (I’m just lukewarm on Rizzo overall) posted basic info on Na below. Slappy type hitter, but it’s been said that he shows some LD potential in practice.

Cates being the third asset in the deal makes me think that Cashner was the highest valued asset in the deal (with Rizzo 2nd/Na 4th). Makes some sense in how teams value young arms these days, and I can understand the concept of trading for pen help (and they can use him in the pen a year and try him in the rotation down the line perhaps), but it’s definitely an … intriguing start for his GM tenure for Byrnes.

I don't know anything about Na.

I wish teams would stop making trades for a couple of weeks while I get the stupid book done.

750K bonus (thanks Raisin)

Same as HK Lee, which surprised … a lot of us Cubs fans. Arguably the best defensive CF in the system overall (I feel like I’m forgetting an XST guy, but the point is that he’s a plus defensive guy), but the bat is squadoosh. If he develops anything with the bat, could be a wonderful fit in Petco, but he’s a long, long, long way away.
