I hear more and more about teams spending more money in foreign areas other than the Dominican Republic. Places like Japan, Korea, India, and even Australia and South Africa.
My question is, while a lot of these areas are complete question marks, is spending money in Japan and Korea really paying off? The only players I really can think of who have had any success were brought here as established professionals and didn't have to work their way up through the minors.
Seems like not a very good return on your money to me.
And the reason I'm singling out Japan and Korea is because there has been over 15 years since I feel there was a spotlight on Japanese baseball with Hideo Nomo. Teams really started scouting Japan, and later Korea, about that time but I simply haven't seen it pay off at all.
