I get that Young has been banged up a lot this year and hasn't delivered much. And he's probably one of the worst defensive outfielders in baseball, even with a cannon for an arm. But he hit very well last year, and still has a ton of potential. Yet the Twins settle for Cole Nelson and a player to be named? I'm curious what the player to be named looks like, because a 10th round pitcher with a mark of 5-11 and a 4.87 ERA in A ball doesn't exactly get the juices going here...
Terry Ryan was the master of deals like this. I would totally give him the benefit of the doubt. But Bill Smith does not have Terry Ryan's track record, which is somewhat surprising since he's still getting advice from him.
That said, anyone know anything more about Mr. Nelson? Don't have my book with me at work to see if John even referenced him...
