2011 BNSL Draft Results
Hi All,
As in years past, here are the draft results from BNSL. It's a 30 team sim league modeled after the MLB. We also have numerous owners who post here, but I'll leave it up to them to identify themselves if they want. I am the GM of the KC Royals. We're also recruiting new blood, which can be seen here: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/7/15/2278345/bnsl-is-looking-for-fresh-meat-alright-show-us-your-heat Which teams did the best?

Some Notes
Cole, Purke and Meyer were already drafted in the past out of HS. Here is the link to last year’s draft: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/8/5/1607085/sim-league-prospect-draft
Here is the Recruitment Post copy and paste too, if you don't want to click the link:
The BNSL is a 30 team, baseball simulation league. We use the Diamond Mind Baseball software (version 10) developed by Tom Tippett, the Director of Baseball Information Services for the Boston Red Sox. Our league is a projection based league using Dan Szymborski’s ZiPS projection system which can be found on Baseball Think Factory, ESPN, and Fangraphs. Our season mirrors MLB and the bylaws are an ever evolving, group effort to improve on the MLB model. A few additional details about our setup:
- Player salaries
- $150m salary cap
- 25% revenue sharing
- 80-man roster limits (2400 players total)
- Active (25-man) and 40-man rosters
- Player options
- 8 round Rule 4 draft (could expand to 10 rounds soon)
- 3 round Rule 5 draft
- 3 tier FA process
- Realistic waiver system
You can check out the BNSL bylaws for our complete rules and you can view the Tigers roster and current performance this season.
If you are interested, please send us an e-mail at bnsimleague@gmail.com as soon as possible so we can discuss how you can apply for the vacant Detroit Tigers organization.
Let me add that we have filled the Tigers position.
However, we are still looking for active, knowledgeable people to add to our waiting list and possibly bring on as assistant GMs. We tend to have anywhere from 4-10 assistant GMs at a given time. While they have no set responsibilities, it does allow you to learn the league setup and allows us to get to know you. It can only help your chances, I served as an assistant GM for 4-5 months before I got my first sim team back in 2006 (I think it was).
Another thing we are looking for is people that could contribute to maintaining the league, primarily writing (weekly wrapups, in season rankings, team draft reviews, pre-season projections, etc.) and web design experience. We would like to upgrade our site and are in the process of creating a user interface.
I think every GM in the league reads Minor League Ball. To my knowledge, at least 8 teams post on the forum (Dodgers, Indians, Nationals, Pirates, Rays, Royals, Rockies, and Twins).
How recent
was this draft? On just some of the values of different players it seems a few months old or more…
We started
When the RL Amateur Draft started, and just finished yesterday.
Reply Fail
That was supposed to be in response to Hybrid
Re:
The person who got Carlos Martinez at 18 got the pick of the draft (for me). He may be the #18 prospect in all of baseball at the end of the year…
Yeah
Excellent pick there. I honestly didn’t think he was eligible yet (my mistake) but he would have been at the top of my list at 6 if Bauer was gone. Of course, some people might prefer him to Bauer anyway.
He fell so far I was starting to think I would have a shot at 1.30 (I am the Rays). :D After he went off the board, I focused in on Guerrieri who went just a couple of picks before me. I imagine Britton is one of the players hybrid is referring too above but I expected him to struggle some still recovering from TJ so am not too concerned…yet.
The pick of the draft might be
Alex Presley at overall selection #216 since he’s already providing immediate dividends for that owner. It’s just a hot streak but he should be in the Pirates starting outfield plans at least until they either trade for Hunter Pence or Starling Marte shows up late next year.

This isn’t a fantasy league. It is a sim league where the seasons are simulated off projections that were created using 3 year (weighted) statistics.
Presley has very little value this year (projected for an 87 OPS+ with average D on the corners and -7-8 runs in CF).
However, if he can keep this up for a while, he may be a pretty good player next year. I have a hard time thinking he will outproduce many of the players taken ahead of him but I wouldn’t say it is outside the realm of possibilities.
Clearly
Cleveland won hands down. haha

Rendon
- overall??? SD manager is obviously Jim Callis
You're seriously questioning the Rendon pick?
He was the best prospect in the 2011 draft.

Also
I believe our first pick was in before the RL draft started, so we didn’t have the benefit of seeing Rendon signed. Actually, I think I drafted Bauer at 6 before the draft started.
In any case, most people thought Rendon was #1, or very close to it, until he slid and the ensuing questions arose.
Yeah he slid 5 picks and everyone on the net freaked out. I’m sure the medicals weren’t great but he wouldn’t have been taken at 6 if there was something that had a high probability of derailing his career. I
Even now, if I had 1.1, I may have taken Martinez or Profar but Rendon would have been in the top 3 for sure.
