Michael Pineda - Fantasy
I realize this site is about minor league prospects rather than fantasy. Still, I feel people here would be most likely to help, rather than elsewhere, even at a site dedicated to fantasy.
Basically I've been offered Rickie Weeks AND Colby Rasmus for Michael Pineda.
I'm in 2nd place, right behind the guy offering the trade (litreally 1 point, in a standard 10 team 5x5 roto league). It's a keeper league, albeit a very casual one. There is no minor system, its simply any 12 (up to 12) players an owner has on their roster going into the draft they can keep. There is no limit to how many years a player can be kept. There is no economy or salary cap. As such, there's an embarassment of riches sitting on the waiver wire at the moment (for example I finally couldn't wait any longer and picked up Mike Trout to stash him on the bench. Now, please don't critcize our league. I realize it's the exact opposite of hardcore, but it's just 10 real life friends, most of whom are casual baseball fans, having some fun. I say ALL this to point out that a guy like Matt Moore is just sitting on the waiver wire and probably even in the offseason (Someone does have Teheran).
So to get to the question. The obvious question is, do I make the trade? It seems like a no-brainer, but what I'm really interested in is the community's opinion of Pineda. How good is he? Obviously he's been very good thus far this year, although his xFIP is nearly a full point higher than his ERA (3.42 vs. 2.45 - 2.91 FIP). Still, he's only a rookie.
Basically, would I be giving a top 10 pitcher for years to come (again factoring in his high strikeouts, but low(er) W totals (playng for Seattle) for fantasy purposes) or is he only a top 30 or even 50 guy over the next several years? If fantasy makes you uncomfortable, just how good is this guy really. Is he a true ace, top 10 pitcher to go next to Felix, or is he a 1-2 guy, who will be a top 50 pitcher.
I would also be helped by comparing Pineda to pitchers I have a better grasp on as far as how they will do over the next 3-5 years. Either compare individually or rank overall.

Short term?
Do it.
Long term?
Nah.
Reason for doing it short term: Eventually the Mariners are going to protect Pineda’s arm and will start limiting his appearances or innings. They may eventually shut him down entirely if he gets close to the 160 IP mark. He’s already at 95 IP before today’s start, so rough estimate would be that the M’s give him another 9 or 10 starts before they relegate him to the bullpen. Thus, for this season, whomever has Pineda is going to have him only as a bullpen arm sometime late in the season.
Long term, though, Pineda should be awesome for years, so keep him.

Sounds like you can win the league without our help
Snark aside, flags fly forever, and fantasy championship bragging rights amongst friends are what playing is all about. Go for the title. You have plenty of keeper talent on your team even without Pineda.
Do the trade
Since nobody else has mentioned it yet, I’ll add that pitcher attrition/injury rates are much higher than position players. If you want to win now, take the two hitters, even if you don’t keep Rasmus.
Take the trade.
Those are two very, very good hitters, and they’re both on the right side of 30 (one on the right side of 27).
Whoever offered must be desperate for pitching.
He
was desperate to move a MI, and he moved one before I could act on the trade. For once, my thoroughness cost me :(.
