Milb Gameday, May 4th
Some pretty good prospect's games are already in the books but, there are a few good ones still to come tonight.
AAA - Jordan Lyles tries to stay hot, so does Mike Montgomery, Blake Beavan, International League has day off today.
AA - Matt Moore, Brad Meyers, Stolmy Pimental vs Dellin Bettances, Casey Kelly vs Neftali Feliz on rehab
A+ and A - Zach Wheeler vs Tyler Skaggs, Alan Webster, Jake Odorizzi, Chad James, Adrian Salcedo, Adys Portillo
Some performances so far . . .
Randal Delgado and Rubby De La Rosa had an excellent pitchers duel earlier today in the first game of a DH
Delgado 7 2 1 1 2 3
RDLR 6 3 0 0 1 7 Delgado with the win as Kenley Jansen allowed 3 in 7th.
Taylor Pastornicky hit homers in both games of the Double header today, his first and second.
Jarrod Parker 6 3 2 2 5 4
John Lamb 6 3 1 1 3 3

what do u think about skaggs
I’ve heard he doesn’t have “ace” stuff, but he’s posting monster strikeout numbers at a young age…with a good groundball rate as well. anybody have any thoughts?
I think he is a very very good #2
Wish the Angels still had him, but i’m fine with Haren :D

Ben Revere called up to Twins
where does he play? maybe LF with young struggling?

young is on the DL
so is Thome, i think Revere’s call up is to allow cuddyer/kubel to get those DH AB’s and he’ll get some time at the corner OF spots till they’re healthy
I'd go with Parker
More strikeout upside, and he’s in the NL West. He won’t have nearly the fight for a rotation spot Odorizzi will either.
+1
I’d go with Parker. He’s struggled early coming back from TJ, but it’s a little premature to knock him down based on 5 starts after not pitching last year. I had Parker ranked well ahead of Odorizzi to start the year, and not much has changed imo.

Odorizzi
I like them both, but Odorizzi isn’t coming back from major surgery. So I’d take him.
Not worried about rotational competition. The good ones get a job.

+1 for Big Jake
I think he might have the safer floor & he still figures to be pretty good. He’s about a year & a half younger too.
That being said, I think Jarrod Parker has a tad more upshot if all breaks right.
He is a beast

i predict 3 more starts
then it’ll be warm enough for him to make his way here.

as long as his control holds up
he’s a legit ML #2 for the next decade. Guy’s got some serious stuff.

He could be a legit ace
I can see Harvey turning into a perennial WAR +5 pitcher.

I would love to jump on this Ha bandwagon, but boy, I still have a hard time seeing a guy who walks so little make it up the ladder as a top notch player. There are definitely enough tools in the bucket, and all indications seem to be that he could probably play a decent CF (whereas a guy like Guyer was viewed more as a stopgap CF). Dunno … just tough with the Cubs recent history of low walk guys.
On the plus side, there’s a definite power spike, which is a nice sight to see, at least, early on, and his K rate is really down. Furthermore, the scouting report does seem to suggest that he isn’t up there blindly hacking away and has a solid eye.
Rays starters off to good start
Moore, Colome, and the out of nowhere CJ Reifenhauser have combined 10 innings 1 r 6 h 4 bb 14 K .. Reifenhauser has been lights out the last few weeks
Rayl's final line 7 innings 1 h 0 bb 11K
Don’t know anything about this guy but he had it going on tonight.
learn to walk plz...
ISO currently sitting at .182. Would love that out of a middle infielder if I thought his approach had a chance of working at higher levels.
The Jose Lopez skill set doesn’t have a very high ceiling, Carlos. Learn to walk. I’m begging you.
rehabs and others
Feliz strikes out the side in a scoreless first in Frisco, looks like he’ll be back on Friday.
Tommy Hunter 4 IP, 3H, 2ER, 1BB, 5K 1HR, 5-1 GO-AO
Mendonca might be turning into a pumpkin, 1 for his last 12 with 6Ks.
Nelson Cruz - 2011 MVP
Jefry Marte
1-2 3B 2 BB 0 K
Dude has really put it together after two miserable years in the Sally. I’m not even a Mets fan, but he’s just fascinating.
Marte...
He’s been a better Wilmer Flores than Wilmer Flores…
Kidding aside though, it wasn’t that long ago that some like Marte better…
Hard not to love what he's shown this year
He’s improved in every possible category, from HR to SB to K & BB to FLD%.
Amazing that he’s had two basically lost seasons and yet he’s still on track to make it to AA before his 20th birthday.
Cameron Greathouse
7 IP, 1 H/3 BBs, 1 ER, 8 Ks. started out with 5.1 no-hit innings (and benefited from a triple play in the 7th).
Lyles
6 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 9 K
Great to see the strikeouts and another good start from him.

RDLR
Good to finally see the strikeout numbers catching up to the top notch stuff.
Am I the only person that loves him enough to think he could end the year as the Dodgers top prospect?
Yeah the fastball is just ridiculous, he can run it up close to 100. His changeup is pretty good, probably above average right now, and his slider is his third best pitch although it’s developing pretty well.
I just feel like this is a guy who could have a plus-plus fastball and two potential plus secondary offerings. With even decent control, thats a number 1-2 starter. Don’t wanna jump the gun too much though, we’ll see how the rest of the season goes
2012 early thoughts
I think he’s probably on the shortlist but my early feeling is that Zach Lee is probably the leader in the clubhouse at this point as far as the consensus LAD #1 guy heading into 2012 goes.
There’s a lot to like about Rubby De La Rosa however including the 4:1 K:BB ratio thus far.
problems throwing strikes again for monty

some guys
Jarek, 1-4, SO
Grossman, 1-3, BB, SO, 2 SB
Fields, 1-5, 2B, SO … been slumpin a lot lately
Wil Myers, 3-4, SO [very montero-esque]
Dellin Betances...
5 IP, 4H, 1R (solo HR), 0 BB, 5K. Solid effort.
Adrian Salcedo
7 innings, 1 ER w/ 8 k’s.
Also, saw Ackley hit a grand slam tonight.
LJ Hoes
5 for 5 today. Yesterday, he had a HR and 4 RBI’s.
Bad overall numbers this season, but he’s been impressive the past few games.

Gotta say it
He’s no good. You know why? He didn’t hit well during his first season. The LASIK surgery won’t matter; the kid is a bust.

Who in the hell was saying that?
There were a lot of skeptics at the time (and for good reason), but no one wrote him off after one season of pro ball.

ignore him, he has posted similar rants
I guess he feels he is the only one backing Hosmer when he had a poor first season. That’s ok though, moms are expected to be this way.
EVERYONE SHUT UP
HOSMER JUST GOT CALLED UP. STOP YOUR PETTY ARGUING AND LETS ALL JOIN HANDS AND SING TOGETHER. SO GLOOOOORIOUS!
i'm kind of enjoying right now
but yes i can’t wait for Duffy and Hosmer to get here. and later this year Moose and Montgomery!

It really can't.
Even though i want Kila to get a shot he is struggling pretty bad right now. he needs a very good month before June. Would love to ease Hosmer in the lineup behind Gordon,Butler,Frenchy, and Betemit.
2nd 3 hit game in a row
his power is “getting there” and i still think he slows down a bit and gets more power in the coming years but he’s now the 3rd best prospect in baseball (for me, what Hosmer’s doing in AAA is just dumb and Harper’s unreal) which isn’t too shabby.

Rizzo
2-4 with another HR and a double.
I know this guy is playing in an awesome hitters environment, but what he’s doing is pretty impressive given ARL and all that stuff. Where would he rank in your top 100’s now?
40s
he’s proving he can hit in places where he’s supposed to and when he’s given a chance, but what happens when he goes to PETCO?
funny thing is, people LOVED Lars Anderson and Rizzo was an also-ran 4 years ago.

Somewhere in the 40s sounds about right. And considering he was a nobody two years ago, it’s clear the kid is making rapid progress. I really like him. I don’t see why he can’t be something like Adrian Gonzalez, who also came on “later” in his prospect career.

yeh, he's in a good hitting environment
but so is everyone else in the pacific league, and at age 21 rizzo has the highest ops
I was beating the drum for him during the community list
around #20 for hitters, IIRC. I think he’s a total package.

Well, four years ago, Rizzo was getting ready for the prom in Florida, so that’s probably not really what you mean.
Three years ago, he had just been diagnosed with lymphoma, so I don’t think many people were too focused on his baseball prospects at that exact moment. So that’s probably not really what you mean either.
Two years ago, he was just getting back on the field, was a teenager in the SALLY and hitting well enough that he earned a promotion by June. By the end of the year, he was within a few spots of Anderson on pretty much everyone’s Red Sox list. So that’s probably not really what you mean either.
Actually, I’m not sure what you really mean.
Reply fail

Brad Meyers Nats prospect
Has not walked a batter in 6 starts so far this season (36.1 IP WITH 38K)
A little old for a prospect IMO as he is 25 and in AA but outstanding numbers.
Meyers - LMU
I think he’s good a decent chance to slot in towards the back of the Undead Expos’ future rotation behind a lot of the presumptive potential frontline guys. His minor league results have been very good thus far.
