Biddle
Biddle went against Taillon in that WV/Lakewood game
He also lasted 5IP with 3ER, but took a different approach to get there: 3H, 5BB/5K.
Also in early CAR action:
Folty 7IP 5H 1ER 2K/2BB +HBP
Kevin Keyes is on the field for Hagerstown finally, going 2-for-5 with a homer. Good thing too, because the definitely need someone with power in the middle of that lineup!
Slade Heathcott: 3-for-5 with a triple. Did he not get a suspension for the brawl???
been wondering the same re: heathcott

Did Matt Harvey miss a start recently?
To me it looks like he did. Anyone know the reason? Or that I’m completely wrong?
He pitched Saturday

Improvement for Folty
Still, his K/9 rate is extremely low. He’s obviously very young, and I’m sure it’s possible he’ll improve his K/9 rate even this year, but how often do highschool pitchers start out with extremely below average K/9 rates (4-5), and then end up being successful. Do any come to mind? Thanks.

top 50?
I think so…just a matter of time before he’s in Arlington.
I don't see him being in the minors by 2012 list time
he’s walking, he’s showing speed and pop, and he’s struck out what—twice in 50 ABs? He’s exceeded my expectations for sure.
What kind of offensive ceiling does LMF have?
I don’t know much about him but I’ve seen projections that his upside is 280 avg, 15 HR, 30 SB. A good 2 or 6 hole hitter. Should score 90 runs in a good lineup. Solid OF D also
Fat man is no more,
Bursting on through Heaven's Door
Come on in, says Bill
Carlos Triunfel
2-3, 2 2B. IMO, he’s resurrected his prospect status. He’s obviously not a top prospect or anything, but he’s back in “talented guy with an infuriating weakness in his game” territory, which was pretty much where he was when he was at his height, too. Still not sold on him as a future major leaguer but he’s back on the ole radar. Needs to learn to take a walk like a fish needs water.
Triunfel always struck me as one of those possible Howie Kendrick types.
The high contact rate and putting the ball in play would make up for the lack of walking. It can work with some hitters. But they have to justify it with more power or they’re still just dragging the team down by making more outs.
Fans are typically idiots.

Cubs Starters
Barring a surprise, he’s headed for the pen long run, but Aaron Kurcz has been solid in A+ for the Cubs, showing a good fastball/breaking ball combination. In Low A, Dallas Beeler gets the start, and he’s hitting mid-90’s with solid secondary offerings. Both Beeler and McNutt are working their way back from small early season injuries.
Tekotte
He was out of the lineup for San Antonio today and there’s noise he’s getting a jump to the big league roster before tonight’s game.
With Cody Decker having gone on the DL yesterday, the Missions were forced to rely on a lineup with only six guys sporting an OPS above 850.
FWIW, a couple people I know in Columbia, MO (his hometown) have confirmed this via texts with him.

Venable down. Todd Frazier also getting the call. He and Maloney up, Jordan Smith and Volquez down.

Maloney deserves a real shot
I really think he could be a solid #3 starter if Cincy stuck with him.
Gary Brown
4-5 with 2 2B…. pushes OPS over 1.000 for the year. Needs work on his base stealing but doesn’t appear to have much left to learn in High A

Eaton
Don’t know if his day is over but 3-3, 4 Runs & 1 RBI, a double and a walk.

Needed to prove his pioneer league stats were no joke. Now it looks like he’s not even being challenged in high A. Not sure if there is room for him in AA though.

Damnnit, should have waited to post
Finished:
3-8, 2B, 3B, 3 K, 2 BB.
So basically, he went 0-5 with 3 Ks and a walk since the original post
Jurickson Profar 2-2, 2 2B, BB
Profar now has more walks(21) than strikeouts(20) on the year. His BB% should be north of 14% now.

profar vs G Green
who would you take in dynasty: G Green or profar
by Rupert Pupkin on May 23, 2011 9:26 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't know enough about Green.
I’d take Profar. I think eventually you’ll have a player that hits .290/370/450 and above average defense at SS/2B. I think he has the skills to stick at SS, but he may need to move to 2B if he remains in Texas. It depends on how fast he forces the action and what happens with Elvis Andrus.
Gonna be fun watching him have his way in Frisco as a 19 year old next year

Tim Dierkes
Mentioned in a chat that he thought it would cost a Top 50 prospect +
Might as well dream big if you’re a Pirates fan. Which I happen to be.
In all honesty
I don’t see Texas as a great fit for Hammer anyways. Feliz has already stated that he wanted to remain at closer, has he not?
Feliz has stated he wants to close, he wants to start
he’s definitely a closer now, he’ll see how he feels next season, he’s running for office. He doesn’t know what he wants.
not true IMO
he always stated he wants to close. He only states he wants to start after he previously made a comment about wanting to close that upset Texas management. Then he retracted his statements.
I think that is obvious
Every time he makes a statement about closing he retracts it. It’s obvious that A) he prefers to close & B) he will toe the company line
Brandon Morrow preferred closing too.
It’s easier. You go in for one inning, throw as hard as you can, and get the glory of finishing off a game. Starting is hard, because there’s more adversity, and young pitchers have to work harder to develop.
It’s not surprising that a young pitcher who has been introduced to the major league closer role wouldn’t want to change. In fact, I’d be surprised if he was vocal about wanting to start again. That’s why the team shouldn’t (and probably doesn’t) put too much weight in his opinion, and should do what they think is going to be best in the long term.
It would be idiotic to hold out for a top 50 prospect
You sell Hanrahan while there is a demand for him. Like they should have done with Capps a few years ago and Meek last year.

Nah
Nothing wrong with starting out high and bringing down the asking price as we get closer to July 31. I’d hold out for a top 50 guy right now too.
There isn't anything wrong with starting that high
So long as he’s willing to move down from that position, it’s fine. His history makes me skeptical that he’ll give much ground though; that’s my main concern, holding out for a top 50 guy through the deadline.

Big disappointment for me so far this year.
I thought he was big league ready.
i would be angrier
if the jays prospect cup wasn’t so full.
Be patient
I still think there’s a good starting pitcher there. It hasn’t been a good start (save for a few outings), but there’s still a lot of time for him to turn his season around. The stuff I saw in spring definitely looked like it will miss bats so I’m not very concerned about the K rate right now.

Finally over!
Jupiter wins it in the bottom of the 23rd to win 2-1. J.L. Ortiz singles, advances to 2nd on a sac bunt, then Jose Duarte bloops it to right. Funny thing? While Jupiter did nothing against the position players Clearwater threw on the mound, they scored the winning run against closer Justin Friend, who came in the game with an 0.86 ERA, and 16 saves in 17 games to lead all of Minor League Baseball.

Some Jays In AAA
Brett “The Law” Lawrie — 2 for 4 (.349), double, dinger, bb, k, and his 10th sb. the front runner for the PCL MVP (if he doesn’t get called up) — easily a top 10 prospect.
David “Pooper Scooper” Cooper — 3 for 5 (.393), double, 2 rbi’s, bb. — Cooper with 30 rbi’s in 26 games. only 2 homer’s tho, but apparently he have 500 foot power. forgotten 1st rounder that’s still just 24 and rounding into form.
Adam Loewen — 4 for 5 (.289), 4 doubles, 2 rbi’s, bb, k — tons of extra base hits in may, 9 doubles, 2 trips, and 5 homers, 11 bb, 21 k. ops above 1.100
Nice to see Loewen heating up
I don’t know if he’ll make it back up to the majors as a Jay but good luck to him nonetheless.

i think
Loewen will be up by august. I think he’s just about ready, and the Jays need to replace Rivera.
Rizzo has something to say
about the PCL MVP race. Yes, he’s a 1B and Lawrie is a 2B but Rizzo’s wRC+ outpaces Lawrie’s by a good amount (186 vs. 153).

Cubs fans, was he pulled due to pitch count like in past games, or due to inefficiency?
i believe it was pitch count related
That was the longest he’s worked since he’s come off the DL. His struggles were in the first and 3rd, and he finished the 4th and 5th relatively strong – giving up only a hit to Paul Goldschmidt.
nice bounce back form him
had been slumping a little bit. Still think he’s quite underrated.
speaking of catchers
sorry, this is more a tangent (I guess only connection is that I think he was somewhat underrated last year), but he hasn’t been having a good enough season for me to mention him overall, but Robinson Chirinos, like Chen, has started to heat up with the bat as well (May – .333/.373/.438).
One game?

Justin Bour
So not on anyone’s radar entering the year, including my own, but his performance is screaming for attention.
3/4, 2 R, 1 Hr, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB. On the season: .326/.391/.610. May – .394/.437/.660.
The Cubs have enough corner guys swinging the bat fairly well in AA right now (Matt Spencer/Rebel Ridling) along with the prospect status of Josh Vitters, and thus, I wouldn’t anticipate a Bour call up anytime soon, but he’s sure forcing his way up. Turns 23 this upcoming weekend, so age appropriate.
Bour
I’ve been appreciating his ability to hit for power (in the FSL no less) while maintaining a solid strikeout rate. Definitely needs something to break loose at Tennessee to accommodate him.
