Did you read Jason Cole's interview
with Myrtle Beach pitching coach Brad Holman? (subscriber) Holman talks about how smart and hard working the MB rotation members are, along with some stuff about Ramirez as well, good read. Cole’s coverage is worth the money.

2 Errors (both throwing), 11 for the season
The bat is ready, the glove isn’t and probably never will be.
not just the errors
The scouting reports I’ve seen have not been positive. I’m not saying that the 3B experiment is completely a lost cause. I’m just wondering whether at this point it is worth continuing, given both the rather slim likelihood that it works, and the fact that the bat looks absolutely big-league ready.
well
youre right, the scouting reports arent very good. however, the 3b experiment is still barely taking off. also, keep in mind today was at least his second game with 2 errors, so hes got 4 errors in those two games and 7 in all the rest. i just happened to see the box score on this one and the other. each of those 4 errors were throwing errors, not fielding. throwing is a lot easier to teach/fix/adjust to than glove work, especially at the hot corner. from a fantasy perspective id rather he did move to the OF because ive got zimmerman, but imo there is not nearly enough to suggest he cant stick at 3rd, at least not yet

Familia pitching report
Okay guys here is my Jeurys Familia pitching report from today.
He’s listed at 6’3 185 on the BMets rosters, but he looked closer to 6’3 210 at the very least.
From the start of his warmups you could tell Familia may not have his command with him today. He was bouncing pitches 58 feet in warmups. 1st inning, Familia comes out and hits 92, 94 right off the bat but threw a poor changeup that didnt read on the gun. He threw a solid breaking pitch, but then walked the 1st batter of the game. He seemed flustered with the runner on base throwing a couple of pickoff throws, the third one he throws away allowing the runner to move to third. He continued to have inconsistent command but was settling in the 93-94 MPH range in the stretch with his fastball and hit 96 a few times. You could clearly see when he was going to throw his changeup and Slurve as his motion was a bit slower for the changeup and it seemed that he didn’t move his arm back for more velocity when he threw his breaking pitch. It almost looked like he was ready to crouch when he threw his slurve. His Slurve(it was hard to see if it was a curve or slider) was coming in the low 80’s and had some good movement at times, often times it was his best pitch. His changeup, when he did throw it was either high or got hit. He allowed a homerun on a changeup or a hanging slurve that had no break over the plate and only threw a handful of changeups in the game. The one good thing for Familia is that he held his velocity until the end of his outing as he settled down in the 4th and 5th innings and was hitting 93 and 94 consistently. From what I saw today was a kid despite improved numbers this year is still a thrower and is very raw as he walked four batters today and didn’t trust his stuff. I see a relief pitcher unless his changeup improves and cleans up his mechanics. Ceiling I saw is a #3 starter, an Edwin Jackson type, a floor of a 6 inning mop up man, and the more likelihood probability of a 7 or 8th inning setup type.

I'll be interested
in a second report. From the game log this was Familia’s second worst start and only his second home run allowed on the year. I think he’s going to be more of a project than the stats indicate, but OTOH it’s hard to believe that his command has been this poor all year or that he’s gotten away completely without a third pitch.

Oh man JJ Hoover...
He’s really struggled since being called up to AAA after being so great for the M-Braves down in Mississippi.
anyone know why he was pulled that early though? (i.e. injury or just playing bad?)

Mariners prospects:
Ackley 1-4, HR, now up to .264 / .375 / .429 with 16 XBH and is torching May to the tune of .322 / .417 / .563.
Speaking of torching May:
Alex Liddi was hideously bad in April, hitting a miserable .210 / .292 / .358. For May he’s at .277 / .362 / .554. He’s still striking out too damned much (35.9%) but he’s not looking AS over matched as he first was.
And who the hell told Mike Carp he could hit? He’s at .301 / .360 / .569 with a blistering .351 / .581 / .714 May.
James Paxton has 4 starts now and in 22.1 IP has 26 Ks to 15 BBs and has only allowed one dinger.
Taijuan Walker has 4 starts now as well with 17.1 IP, 23 Ks, and 7 walks.

Not his dominant self, but a quality start nonetheless
Check his ground ball ratio.

Looked myself anyway out of curiousity.
Not much of a ground baller is he? Considering his overall 63Ks in 56.7 IP, I’d say there’s not much to worry about.

Anyone know about his upside?
I view him as a potential #2 but could his stuff translate to a #1 possibly?

I can't really see him as more than a 2 and even that takes some projectio
he is big and durable and has pitched a lot of innings but the secondary stuff ALL needs to come along for him to be a true #2 as scouts describe it (not a #31 – #60 starter) I had thought. If he gets his fastball SITTING in the mid 90s I see #1 potentially along with good movement and plus to plus plus control and command then… Of course, I love the guy and have him as a borderline top 50 guy now after being 102 in the offseason. The Ks are ridiculously impressive and he is doing in the “high minors” now.
not a #31 – #60 starter
That’s not my definition of a #2 starter.

If he performs between #31 - #60 starter
He would be considered a major success story. Possible, but I think the odds are against him.
Jarek Cunningham
0-4 with 4ks.
Needs to do better to be considered a top prospect
If I were to consider a "top" prospect to be top 100
Jarek strikes out too much in general. Unless he does better, he won’t be near my top 100. But thats just me.
bad day?
He’s struck out 14 times in his last 25 AB. This wasn’t just a bad day; it’s indicative of a serious problem.
I'm guessing he's still very vulnerable to chasing curve balls
It is a serious problem that needs to be fixed if he wants to be a MLB caliber player.

But...but...IsoP! lol
And it’s not just the strikeouts, it’s that he doesn’t walk either, which has been my reservation about him last year and this.

Reese Havens
Finally made his 2011 Debut (A+)
2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB
(I know the RBI don’t mean anything, but it makes the line look better!!)
So do I, but I'm at work today. What a pussy.
