Our greatest need would seem to be a legitimate power hitter with plate discipline, preferably at a corner IF/OF position. The strength of this draft is in college and HS pitching, so we may wait until Rds. 2 & 3 to hone in on a CIF/COF.
After some initial discussions, here are a few names we are focusing on for pick #9:
Hultzen, SP
Starling, OF
Lindor, SS
Gray, SP
Barnes, SP
Springer, OF
Jungmann, SP
Bauer, SP
There are some differing opinions in the war room re: Bauer & Jungmann as players who should remain on the short list, as well as questioning whether Starling, Lindor, or Hultzen will be available at pick #9. All contributors noted our previous connection to Sonny Gray, but it's not a given that he will be our choice if available.
While it seems likely that we will nab a college arm at #9, the choices beginning in round 2 (#68) are wide open. We'll try to land an impact bat here (an IF, if feasible). In MOD #1, I listed a few names to watch at this spot (Bichette, McCann, maybe even Marlette) - any other suggestions for Rd. 2?
