Jacob Turner so far
3 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
He’s given up two home runs, one of which was to the completely powerless Freddy Galvis.

In the middle of a big day, 2-for-3 with a BB and HR so far. Wonder why he’s so low in the Portland lineup? Batting sixth today.
Final
3-4, 2b, 2hr, bb.
Still not sold on him, but that’s a pretty line.
Agreed
As a Sox fan, his early start has me salivating but he had a similar hot start last year and didn’t keep it up. He needs to continue improving his K-rate which he’s done thus far this year but we will see if he can hit at least level for longer than a month.
Brandon Jacobs of Lowell > Brandon Jacobs of NYG
Interesting
I have an awful memory, and didn’t remember his hot start last year, at all (and I’m a fantasy owner who checks on him nightly).
There are actually a lot of similarities between his starts in both seasons, statistically.

Phillippe Aumont
1IP 0H 0BB 3K
He’s been dominant out of the ’pen this year and I see that continuing. By my count, he has something like an 81% ground ball rate on balls put in play. Perhaps the best relief prospect in baseball?

Qute the opposite actually. But man at some point you’ve gotta hope they get at least something out of the Lee trade. Especially with Smoak currently doing a pretty convincing imitation of a middle of the order hitter. At this point it’s pretty much all on Aumont, with Ramirez running a K/9 under 1 and Tyson Gillies lying at th bottom of a lake somewhere.*
*at least I assume that’s where he is, since i haven’t really given him a thought in the last 2 years.

engel beltre suspended
ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers minor leaguer Engel Beltre received a 15-game suspension for his role in a confrontation with fans during a Double-A game in San Antonio.
The Rangers said Wednesday that Beltre, who is on their 40-man roster and playing for Frisco, apparently heaved a plastic trash can into the stands at fans after water bottles had been thrown at Frisco players at the end of Tuesday’s 6-5 loss.
“It’s a black eye for all involved,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. “We do not know everything that happened, but we’re looking into it.”

Starling Marte
Not a particularly notable day – 1-4 with a single and a steal. The notable thing is that he’s got 84 PA now and has only K’d in 17% of them. SSS for sure, but based on what I saw last year, I was expecting a lot of difficulty in adjusting to AA, and he doesn’t seem to be having any trouble at all.
Has anyone seen him this season? Has he made real strides at the plate or is this a fluke?
Hitting a ton.
And showing a ton of speed from what I hear listening to the game and reading the Altoona Mirror.
Danny Duffy also pitching

Hard to get attention as a Mission hitter right now, but that’s his 4th homer of the week with a 500 OBP.

Mike Minor...
… has borderline video game stats. But there’s no spot for him in the bigs. Beachy has been very solid in hanging onto the 5th spot. And Teheran is itching for a promotion. What are the Braves to do? Trade Lowe or Hudson? Granted, it’s a good problem to have…
problem
It’ll work itself out within a couple weeks. Someone will get hurt, need time off, be ineffective, something like that. As long as Minor keeps pitching like this he’ll be up shortly, but right now it doesn’t look like it’ll be because of Beachy’s ineffectiveness

Hak Ju Lee went 2-3 with an RBI he is now 21-45 to start the year with a 1.272 OPS to start the year
Brandon Guyer went 3-4 with 3 runs 2 RBI and a HR today in 2 games for Durham. He is hitting .372 with nearly a 1.100 OPS.
even with Chris Archer struggling the Matt Garza trade is looking great for TB so far.
Although...
It doesn’t look all that bad for Chicago yet either.
Garza has thrown 30.2 innings of 1.25 FIP/1.94 xFIP ball (although his ERA is 4.11). He hasn’t given up a long ball, and his K/9 is a robust 12.03 with a 2.64 BB/9. His BABIP against is also .414, so even once he starts letting up a few HR, the overall BAA will likely go down. Look for his ERA to begin dropping, as he really has not been a 4.11 ERA pitcher up to this point.
Yeah
Obviously things aren’t all that bad for Matt Garza if one looks under the figurative hood & I like said pitcher quite a bit. However, that deal was atrocious when considering all that went into it in my opinion.
This is true
But the Cubs are pushing for a playoff berth in 2011. If they make the playoffs this year (with Garza’s help), the deal won’t look as bad as it did at the time of the trade.
Jonathan Garcia
2-6, w/ his 7th hr
Trivia question, last teenager to hit 7 hr’s in a month in the midwest league. I don’t know the answer at all, yet alone who has done it to start the season, fairly impressive power.
I think Decker did it in Ft. Wayne in May two years ago…
by realitypolice on Apr 29, 2011 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions
Moustakas did it in August of 08.
I counted six for Decker.

for a first game after getting hit in the balls so hard he needed an MRI and a few days off. Ouch.

2010 10th round pick out of the U of SD, but so far his pro stats are

He’s starting now for the Burlington Bees
Pretty sure his stuff is very fringy
As a college senior in the MWL, those numbers aren’t very surprising.
