Belt to start in AAA
http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/04/giants-top-prospect-brandon-belt-likely-headed-for-triple-a/
According to Hardballtalk:
Last year Brandon Belt led all minor leaguers in OPS during his first pro season, batting .352 with 76 extra-base hits, 22 steals, and 93 walks in 136 games while playing at three different levels, but yesterday Giants general manager Brian Sabean indicated that the 23-year-old first baseman will likely begin 2011 back at Triple-A.
Sabean didn’t rule out Belt forcing his way into the team’s Opening Day plans, but made it clear to Chris Haft of MLB.com that the 2009 fifth-round pick will be facing an uphill battle:
You don’t want a young player, or potentially a player that’s going to burst on the scene, [coming] to spring training and [having] no chance. You have to give them some hope that you’re going to be open-minded. Having said that, I probably expect him to start in Triple-A, and we’ll be conservative. But you can’t kill his enthusiasm or his will to want to make the team. He’ll have to force his way into this mix through his performance.
San Francisco didn’t call up Buster Posey until May 29 last season and he was an even better, more MLB-ready prospect than Belt, so most likely he’ll have to beat up on Triple-A pitching for a couple months before potentially taking over as the Giants’ first baseman and pushing Aubrey Huff to left field.

Just a suggestion
But there’s a thread for such prospect news for the new season already, is this really needing it’s own thread?
Stop whining?
This is a fine fanpost.

+1
I mean this is pretty big news, but their is a topic for it.
Of course, I see KBR already came in. This isn’t Canada KBR where we all don’t whine…..
Apologies if you took it as insulting
I wasn’t arguing the quality of post, it’s a good piece of news and well presented, just that it would make sense to keep everything in one place so people can find all news quickly, whether by posting a copy in the main thread as well as this thread, or by transfering over. Unless of course your in favour of having a seperate post for each piece of news, in which case my suggestion has no bearing.
Might also be an idea to create a spring training thread for every team, would allow a bit more focus for finding team news while also controlling the number of threads flying up. Spring training is a busy time for news so it will be busy.

Of course it isn't Canada
If you were from Canada you would understand the difference between “their”, “there”, and “they’re”. LOL.
In all seriousness, this is a pretty big story as there has been lots of talk about him starting in the big leagues.

There will still be talk about him starting with the Giants
because Sabean left that possibility open, even if it is unlikely.

This post title is inaccurate
Sabean did not say “definitely,” he said “probably.”

Is this really news?
Belt’s probably starting the year in AAA. Is there anyone who woke up yesterday thinking he was most likely going to be in the lineup at Chavez Ravine March 31?
The Giants need to stop playing around and trade Belt to the Nats.
How can we get a deal done?
Be real with yourself.
I thought the Nationals already had the top three prospects at every position on the field?

I would say Derek Norris
But I know you’d throw a complete fit :)
The Nats don't have the prospects to stack up.
Now that Strasburg’s arm is fried.
Harper maybe in the future, but he hasn’t even made to full season ball yet.
