Minor League Cuts Help
Hey all, it's that time in my sim league where I can trim down my minor league roster before the amateur draft. When all is said in done, I can have 25 guys on my team, including the guys I drafted. The more guys I cut here, the more picks I have. It's a 24 team league though, so the most worthwhile guys go very quickly.
I only have 17 guys so I don't need to cut anyone, but if there's any guys on my team that really aren't worth having at all, they should go. Also, don't make too much fun of my system, it's a wreck now, but only because I've traded lots of my prospects recently in hopes of winning it all this year. Here's my guys:
Drake Britton
Ivan Dejesus Jr.
Brett Deval
Billy Hamilton
JJ Hoover
Jake Jefferies
Trevor May
Jake Odorizzi
TJ Steele
Thanks!

I think
Mitch Canham can probably go…unless this is a two starting catcher league, where he might have some (little) value
Except
Canham’s not a catcher any more, and he’s almost certainly not going to make a roster out of spring training.

make a roster
you mean he’s going to be out of the org entirely? or just the majors roster? I definitely didn’t mean he was going to make the bigs this year, just down the line he might have value in a very deep league. Also, didn’t he just split time last year in the OF, I didn’t know there was a permanent move

out of the org
He’s really going to struggle to have a spot on the Missions roster, and he’s far enough down the depth chart that I’d be surprised if he makes it out of spring training.

clarification
I should point out that what is of import in this league is not their minor league stats, but their eventual major league production. So AAA lifers aren’t of any use to me, for example. It’s all about guys who will pan out as useful major league players.
Bid adieu
to Canham, Carignan, Steele.
DeJesus might be a cut too. He could have a 10 year MLB career but only as a utility player like an Alex Arias/Emilio Bonifacio type and that has very little value even in a 24 team league. I can see a couple years of .270/.330/.350 in 300 ab’s at his peak.
The fringy pitchers like Pelzer and Will Smith might be worth keeping around for another year but both are probably 6th/7th inning relievers long term.
Smith
I think Smith could be a real find for KC – they tweaked his mechanics when they first acquired him and he just took off. LAA kinda screwed him over by promoting him too rapidly. Smith likely starts 2011 in AA and could end the year in AAA. Ceiling pre-trade was a #4 SP; I think he should at least be bumped up to a #3 SP ceiling.
Else, I agree with two fishsticks
See if maybe someone takes a flier on Pelzer and DeJesus…just on name recognition
