In a blatantly homeristic move, I’m switching to Tyrell Jenkins because thats how I feel today. I have him on basically equal grounds with Noah Syndergaard but I think that Jenkins isn’t as far away as everyone thinks he is. The guy has made some very quick adjustments to his mechanics which have resulted in some serious groundballing and with good strikeout numbers to match. When the Cardinals drafted him, I was skeptical and almost sure that he would need multiple seasons in Rookie leagues. But I would expect he makes a full season club next year, namely Quad Cities.

Ok
My question would be, why is that such a point in Jenkin’s favor? Almost every other candidate here has excelled in full-season ball, much less reached it.

Well
None of the other cantidates are Cardinals so, I can’t answer that one :) Did he give him an A- or, a B+? I don’t see it. If he is so talented, why couldn’t he go pitch in tghe Midwest League this year, like Tijiuan Walker. Walker was raw too.

Here's a pretty good article on Jenkins
The organization is gonna take it slow on him seeing as he’s still pretty new to baseball and he’s the youngest player on his roster. If you liked him when he was drafted, he’s only moved up his timetable.

The current tester list order
Is the order I’ve come up with based on reading lots of voter opinions. If anyone thinks someone should be much higher or much lower on that list (or added to it * and ahead of whom), let me know. Don’t worry about the order at the back end, as I’ll be re-sorting the list every few polls.

If you've mentioned your favorites in the last couple polls
Then your opinion has already been integrated in as far as who you like, so you don’t need to continue to lobby for those guys at this point.

I just don’t see it.

Sure
To preface, I doubt I’d vote Nestor Molina now. That said, guys with really good stuff are pretty much a dime-a-dozen, as we can see by the fact we’ve elected 24 guys with really good stuff, and there’s another couple dozen waiting in the wings. Molina’s stuff is underrated, and is gathering broader respect, but it probably doesn’t match up with almost all of the guys who’ve been elected or who are currently getting votes. What Molina does have is elite, elite command and control, and the results to back that up.
When you consider some of the great pitchers of the last generation, there’s a lot of guys without overwhelming stuff, but who have succeeded on the basis of terrific command. Cliff Lee and Dan Haren are current examples, but you also have guys like Glavine, Maddux, Pettite, Jimmy Key and many others who demonstrate you can have great results without elite stuff. Molina could very well be that kind of guy, and 25th overall seems like a reasonable spot to put him.
I think people underrate control and command as legit pitching tools in general
I also think Molina’s splitter is underrated. Funny you mention Haren, because their release points and deceptiveness seem very similar. They also both have a splitter. Interesting…

That same argument could be made for Brad Peacock, Jake Odorizzi, Drew Hutchison
and possibly Joe Wieland. I don’t see what would really put him over those first three names and while he’d be ahead of Wieland for me I’m not sure how far ahead he would be.

You could make that same argument...
but it would be weaker for all four. Molina’s control as measured by BB/9 is far better than any of the others you mention. Unless the scouting reports on these other guys command is off the charts, Molina’s is probably better. I do understand Peacock and Odorizzi to have better stuff though.
Trevor May seems highly underrated at this point. I can see a some of the names currently up for vote ahead of him, but he’s in the conversation and he isn’t getting nearly enough traction, in my opinion.
I'm not a huge fan
But I thought he’d have a really popular following, pushing to get him in the top 50 overall at least.

Casey Kelly in fourth place right now
I really don’t understand that one.
i actually thought
you would not be a fan of Casey Kelly
unless by “in fourth place” you meant that that’s too high
Exactly
I don’t even have him in my top fifty personally. Anyone care to persuade me here?

You're probably right
I was not aware that his K rate dropped.

Feel free to change your vote
Oh, to say, Odorizzi :)
But yeah, his K-rate is in dangerous territory right now – not many successful ML pitchers had that kind of minor league k-rate.

Would I do that with a "-1" response to my previous vote?
