Community Pitching Prospect Discussion (#26-30)

Here is a place to discuss some of the next batch of pitchers that might not make the poll very soon, but you you think deserve to. Manny Banuelos and Brad Peacock have been getting lots of votes for a while and are leading the current poll, so we really don't need to discuss those two. After that, these are the players that have been getting multiple votes in polls so far...

Jake Odorizzi, Nestor Molina, Casey Kelly, Noah Syndergaard, Tyrell Jenkins, Zach Lee, Trevor May, Mike Montgomery

The following have been on the poll getting 0 or 1 vote in most polls (only need to discuss if you think they are better than the guys from the above list)...

Keyvius Sampson, Drew Hutchison, Joe Wieland, Sonny Gray, Taylor Jungmann, Garrett Richards, Matt Barnes, Jarred Cosart, Jed Bradley

The following is the current tester list (we don't need to discuss these guys unless you think they are better than the guys from the first list)...

TESTERS: Chad Bettis, Jose Campos, Wily Peralta, Dellin Betances, Justin Nicolino, Jeurys Familia, Deck McGuire, Daniel Norris, Jesse Biddle, Nathan Eovaldi, Tyler Thornburg, Liam Hendricks, Luis Heredia, Alexander Torres, Alex Colome, Addison Reed, Taylor Guerreri, Allen Webster, Jose Fernandez, David Holmberg

Odorizzi

I’m pretty surprised he hasn’t been included yet. Curious what the community has to say about why he isn’t.

He is my current vote

I would have had him on already. There were some scouting concerns last year, but I think he answered them this year. Some people might still be hesitant though, due to those concerns, and the dropoff in his results in AA. I am not as concerned with that personally.

Pitchers in my top 30 not on yet

18. Jake Odorizzi
19. Brad Peacock
22. Noah Syndergaard
24. Trevor May
25. Tyrell Jenkins
27. Drew Hutchison
28. Dellin Betances
30. Justin Nicolino

It looks like Peacock, Odorizzi, and Jenkins will get on in the next 4-5 polls. Syndergaard has received some support, and will probably be off the list by poll 32.

If I had to choose someone being overlooked right now by the community, it would probably be Trevor May, who doesn’t look like he will get on until the late 30s, early 40s. May has some control issues, but he improved from 2010. In his age 21 High-A season, he put up elite strikeout numbers, with a 32% K-rate, vs. a 10.7% BB-rate, and a very nice 3.1 K/BB ratio, leading to an amazing 2.69 FIP.
I know people will think this is crazy, but compare him to Matt Moore. In 2010, Moore’s age 21 season in High-A, he put up a 34.8% K-rate, a 10.2% BB-rate, and a impressive 3.41 K/BB ratio, leading to an incredible 2.38 FIP. These are all slightly better than May, but it is pretty close. Even if you don’t want to predict May to have a Matt Moore breakout next year, he still should be a top 30 pitching prospect in my opinion.

Like a lot of these guys similarly

Brad Peacock, Jake Odorizzi & Trevor May are my next 3 remaining & I could see a case for May once Peacock (clearly my best left) is off. The underrated Hutchison & Jenkins would be 2 of my next 3 (Keyvious Sampson is the other member of my Top 6 at this point & I have him slotted fourth).
