"We did a lot of good things last year, and now we've got Julio ... That does nothing but improve the offense, and we expect to do better. That's our goal, to lead the NFL in everything. Every offensive category." -Roddy White

It's simplistic

. . but, telling. The Rangers wouldn’t have given Erlin and Wieland to the Padres for just Mike Adams if these guys were as good as some people think. They both know how to pitch and, I like them but, If you see them I doubt manypeople would be as impressed as just looking at thier numbers.

Sometimes

you confuse me. You laud Bauer for his numbers and then you advocate downplaying Erlin and Wieland’s numbers.

That’s too simplistic a characterization of your ideas, so I’m probably being unfair, and I do get where you are coming from, it just strikes me as a bit odd. If I had too, I’d probably say I think you give Bauer’s numbers too much credit, but maybe that’s too isolated of an incident and it’s preventing me from picking the correct side on the theoretical level.

I think case

Thinks Bauer was the best prospect in the draft regardless of the numbers, as many others think/thought as well. When someone you are really really high on ends up putting up great numbers as well, it is icing on the cake. If the numbers are what makes you like a player, as is the case with Erlin to some degree, it is pretty different.

Good

point. I’m just not of the opinion that Bauer was the best prospect in the draft. I’d have him 5th, and no I don’t have Cole first just because the Pirates drafted him.

Rendon’s health makes him hard to place. If Rendon’s healthy he’s the clear #1 for me. However, since he dropped past multiple other teams than just the Pirates, it is a concern. That said, I would have ranked them as follows

  1. - Bundy
  2. - Cole
  3. - Rendon
  4. - Hultzen
  5. - Bauer

To each his own

But if Bundy has a really great statistical year, you are probably going to be more excited about it than you would yet another big statistical year from Erlin.

By the way

I like Erlin quite a bit too.

by auclairkeithbc on Dec 14, 2011 10:00 AM EST up reply actions

I guess

my point had nothing to do with Erlin. It just had to do with I don’t think Bauer is that good and so I don’t get the whole bruhaha over his numbers.

by McCutchenIsTheTruth on Dec 14, 2011 11:55 AM EST up reply actions

Bauer's stuff

is underrated IMO. He tended to get grouped in with pitcher’s like Erlin because of how great his numbers are, but I think that made lose sight of the fact that Bauer has plus stuff to begin with. It may not be off the charts kind of stuff, but it is definitely above-average. Just adding in my two cents on where the difference between Bauer and Erlin lies.

Calling this one early, since this is such a major blowout. With 79.1% of the vote, Marisnick wins this one.
