Bravesin07 Top 25 Prospect List
1) Mike Trout-Elite Hitter .300+ with 20 HR and 40 SB potential, Good D as well
2) Matt Moore-Elite Pitcher, could become what Kershaw is rapidly and be top 3 arm in the game
3) Bryce Harper-Massive power 40+ HRs a year, but also 150 K's a year BA is a question
4) Shelby Miller-Could be a 1 and could contend for multiple CYs
5) Jesus Montero-Potential masher in the Cabrera mode if moved off C rapidly, downside is Butler still a quality bat
6) Manny Machado-Potential elite SS with .290 Ave with 22-28 HRs a season
7) Trevor Bauer-Can he become Tim, no but could be a RH Cliff Lee
8) Taijuan Walker-Ceiling is close to Moore's if he refines into what people expect him to, could be the next Verlander
9) Jurickson Profar-Potential AS SS, with a good bat and better glove than Machado, offensive ceiling isn't quite as high
10) Gerrit Cole-Can be a 1, but as a 1st pick he has to buck the trend of #1 picks on pitchers
11) Devin Mesoraco-Best catcher in the minors, could be a RH McCann with maybe an even better glove
12) Tyler Skaggs-lefties like him don't grow on tree, minimum a high end 3, could end up being a 1
13) Anthony Rendon-Injuries knock him down some, moving to 2nd, he can become what Utley was in his prime
14) Julio Teheran-Can be a 2 but also could become a closer if the curveball doesn't develop
15) Travis D'Arnaud-Solid All Around Catcher, should have some all star appearances
16) Dylan Bundy-Similar to Walker and Moore in Ceiling, want to see him pitch before ranking him higher
17) Wil Myers-Could become what Jay Bruce was suppost to be with the bat ie .300 30 HRs
18) Bubba Starling-Highest ceiling outside of Trout and Harper but a risk. Upside is the 2nd best CF in the game
19) Jameson Taillon-Could be a 1 but command is average at best right now and doesn't appear to have much of a change up.
20) Nolan Arenado-Can he mash in Colorado, sure, does he have enough glove to hold down 3rd
21) Jacob Turner-A quality 2 or 3 starter, can become a 1 if he adds a few ticks to FB
22) Miguel Sano-A masher, can become what Montero ceiling is
23) Xander Bogaerts-Can he stay in the infield, if he goes to 3rd he could become the good Beltre
24) Jake Marisnick-It all depends on if Gose can hit in the majors, either way Marisnick have the potential to become a 20-20 man with a .285+ ave
25) Archie Bradley-Can become a 1 but like Bundy need to see him pitch in order to raise ranking.

Wow
for someone who has Braves in their name, you really don’t like Teheran, I haven’t seen him that low at all
I <3 Runz
According to Foster and Law
There’s a reason scouts in general love him. The curve flashes plus and is consistently average. He doesn’t locate it well, but its certainly not a below average pitch.
Love
the top 3. Exactly as I have them.

but Taillon is too low for my taste.
Having a guy like Walker ahead of him is a head-scratcher to me..
Also confused by
10) Gerrit Cole-Can be a 1, but as a 1st pick he has to buck the trend of #1 picks on pitchers
The last two pitchers picked at #1 overall have been Stephen Strasburg and David Price. If he becomes either of those I will be ecstatic. If you had Hochevar, that’s the 3 pitchers selected #1 overall over the past decade, and two of three aces aint that bad.
Overall, nice list. Good to see some variety.

Walker and Taillion on comparable. Having them a spot or two different isn't a big deal
Certainly an argument for Walker

He
has Walker at 8 and Taillon at 19. That’s not a few spots.

+1 on the #1 overall comment
2 of the last 3 have been great picks, and even Hochevar has been a serviceable starter with some upside still left.
Taillon and Walker are awfully comparable though like JD pointed out. John pointed this out in his list – Walker has legit ace upside just like Taillon does.
The three pitchers selected #1 in the past decade
Don’t forget the immortal Bryan Bullington (2002).
Do you think all #1s are aces?
Without rehashing the whole “what is a #1?” thing, I tend to think of Ace status as a subset of the #1s. The best of the best. At any given time, I think of there being roughly 6 to 10 guys in the league who are legit aces, and I wouldn’t put Price, with his career 8.13 K/9 and 0.8 HR/9 rates, there yet really. He’ll probably get there, but I’d like to either see his dominance step up a notch, or see his current performance be consistent for several years, ala Halladay.
It's
semantics. Price is a damn good pitcher and is nothing but a success, even as the #1 overall pick. That was my point.

IMO
The “ace” label, to me at least, has always been more of a marketing/PR thing than a baseball statistically measurable type of thing. An ace is a guy who isn’t just REALLY good, he’s a guy who you can market to a fanbase as a top guy, who helps to improve the team’s prestige and ticket sales.
There are definitely some guys who pitch at a frontline starter level for multiple years and yet aren’t considered as truly marketable types . . .Javier Vazquez comes to mind as a good example. Nobody would ever “pay to see him pitch” or whatever, but it doesn’t mean he’s a worse player for that.
I think Price clearly fits the “ace” label. He’s not only a really good pitcher, he’s an exciting player who would put asses in the seats wherever he happened to be. If you were to compare him to Jamie Shields . . .yes, Shields might be the better pitcher at present, but he’s not nearly the presence that Price is. Shields is another good example of a guy who might be a frontline arm, but is clearly not an ace.
Me and you are the only ones left on the Montero train!

Love Myers but
I really don’t think he has that kind of power, not even that close. I’d expect more of a Billy Butler who can play adequate OF defense, which is still great but a different kind of player.
