Javy Guerra...
is technically not a rookie but he has only 46.7 MLB IP, so does he meet your eligibility requirements?
I would add Matt Magill and possibly Andres Santiago
Not sparkling ERAs, but above average FIPs and peripherals in Cal league and not too old. I’d rank them ahead of a lot of other guys on this list.
Cuts:
Bawcom
Gallagher
Patterson
maybe Fife?
Frankly a lot of our picks from 2011 draft probably have no business being included in top 35 other than the fact they are shiny new toys.
magill
Magill is interesting but stuff is marginal. I want Fife in because I have seen him in person and have good data. Santiago could fit instead of Gallagher.

Schebler
his power/speed numbers are intriguing..
Top 20
I see about 8 pitchers in their top 10

Brian Cavazos-Galvez...
might still be worthy of consideration. Wasn’t too impressive last year in AA, but started the season with an injury and never really got going.
Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.
I’d say Juan Rodriguez, but his fastball should play.
Don’t know anything about Yimi Garcia either.
Kyle Russell looks like a waste of great power at this point.
How dare you talk that way about our future right fielder like that!
TBLA 2011 Postseason Prediction Champion
I’m not particularly impressed by either of the O’s. O’Brien is an 18th round pick college kid with unspectacular production in AZ. O’Sullivan was a higher pick, but I don’t recall any hype at all when he was drafted, and he certainly didn’t impress with his numbers in his very brief time in Ogden.
"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great."
O’Brien actually had a much better pro debut than most of our recent college catcher draft picks. He outperformed Maynard by a mile.
O’Sullivan actually had a pretty good scouting reports when he was drafted, but his pro debut was pretty bad in those 3 starts or whatever.
2011 was not an impressive draft though (at least at this point).
o'brien
I rather like O’Brien. He looked good to me at Wichita State

8 guys to cut
KRussell…AAAA at best
OSulivan..too soon to know
Obrien..maybe next yr he gets in top 40
Jacobs
YGarcia..maybe next yr
RPatterson
Magill
Fife….
Gallagher…
but you should add….Ralston Cash who was injured last yr..
Hard to find guys to cut since there's a lot of parity in this group, eh?
My suggestions are mostly based on gut and some lack of upside, but could cut: YGarcia, Boudreaux, Bawcom, Cash and maybe Patterson, though as you say his numbers sure have been good, just doesn’t seem like much prospect upside…
I’m glad the Dodgers at least finally have catching depth in the system (I like O’Brien too) — that was quite bare a year or so ago, but with Erickson, O’Brien, and Maynard – as well as of course Fed, it looks a lot better.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
I don’t want to see Yimi get cut, because I’d like to hear anything about there that John might dig up.
True I'm curious, too, if he finds anything interesting
I have not found anything interesting but that does not mean much ;)

I'm still interested in Delmonico
though totally understandable if he doesn’t make the cut.
Lots of mediocrity
Graduating Gordon, De La Rosa, Sands, Jansen, Elbert and Guerra really hurt the Dodgers’ minor-league depth.
Cuts:
DeJesus (doesn’t seem to be in the team’s future plans)
Gallagher
Fife (I know you said you want him in)
Jacobs
O’Brien
O’Sullivan
Patterson
Russell
I’d almost cut Martin, too (I ranked him No. 37 on my list). I just don’t see him throwing enough strikes to be successful.
Guys to possibly include:
Derek Cone
Noel Cuevas
Juan Noriega (would be interested to see a write-up on him)
Jesus Valdez
Looking forward to the final list.
My cuts
Logan Bawcom RHP
Chris Jacobs 1B
Red Patterson RHP
Stephen Fife RHP
Chris O’Brien C
Javier Solano RHP
All have middle relievers or bench player upside some ways from the majors. The exception would be Fife, but I’m bearish after being disappointed by John Ely, which might be unfair. Both are junk-balling righties acquired from other orgs.
I would caution against bailing on Ethan Martin. I know he’s been a disappointment, but he actually showed some usable control out of the pen and he’s got plus stuff. I don’t see why you would drop Martin, but keep Rodriguez or McGough.
Not sure why people want to drop O'Brien
He was a late draft pick, but performed well in his debut which can’t be said for Maynard. Those guys are essentially equal in my book for now despite their relative draft standings.
o'brien
I like O’Brien and he’s staying in. I already wrote up Red Patterson…he’s an organization arm but I find him interesting.
O’Sullivan needs to stay due to draft position.
Catchers
so the Dodgers have 4 catching prospects worth talking about … no complaints here!
If you're going to have him in
You can recycle the first and last sentence of your entry on Triunfel last year…
(Actually, I think you should make an annual tradition of naming a “Jameson” possibility player each year!)

Gustavo Gomez, SP
Live arm in the Pioneer League this year, seemed to build up some decent helium during the summer months. Nearly 30% K rate, though walks really need to come down (~14% in 2011). FIP around 4.50, but had a low LOB% (~60%). May be partial to SSS (72.1 IP in 2011). Worth mentioning, IMO.
Ethan Martin RHP should I even bother?
Don’t think you should cut him. Way too much potential right now, even with very poor control

Even then, he improved in his move to relief
And in the spot starts he made afterward.

Jon Garcia
A little bit of a leap of faith . . .but possible Sleeper Alert?
That was the thought going into 2011, as well...
After tearing up the Pioneer League in 2010, his BABIP dipped considerably (.364 to .274) but he showed great power in the first half of 2011. His K% & BB% went the opposite directions, but not by much compared to ‘09-’10. If he can reign in his plate discipline, he’s got a bright future.
Cut List
Justin Boudreaux- 22 year old in the Pioneer League, he’ll have to move fast in 2012 to be relevant.
Chris Jacobs- older and repeating low A ball, he did put up nice numbers but will have to have a monster year at Rancho at the age of 23 to establish himself.
Austin Gallagher- injuries and poor player development decisions have slowed Gallagher, he’s shown the ability to hit but the power hasn’t been there as expected despite the right frame for it. I watched him in ST in 2010 and was impressed but he needs to do something at AA in 2012 to make next years list.
Ethan Martin- improved after moving to the bullpen and jumping to AA but still not showing the type of command you’d like to see. Would like to see the Dodgers move Martin to third base, conversely move Pedro Baez to the mound as a RP.
Pratt Maynard- i am intrigued but need to see more of him before I add him to this list.
I would like to see Tony Delmonico added; I think a year removed from catching will do him good and see him as a good fit at third base or second, solid hitter, average pop, plus patience.
John, can you do us Dodgers fans a favor
and NOT post the Top 20 over the weekend. There is a lot more to talk about when we are all bored in front of our work computers.
lol
At the current rate it won’t be done until Monday anyhow. I need to find a way to have 34-hour days.
