Hard to pick Jennings over Ackley. I feel like Ackley is the better hitter going forward but Jennings is more athletic which will help give him an edge in SBs/Defense

Dustin Ackley & Freddie Freeman right there also (not to mention Desmond Jennings & Jeremy Hellickson – great rookies in ’11).
What's the reasoning for Goldschmidt over Freeman?
I’ll leave aside someone like Ackley who clearly deserves to be higher and just focus on Freeman for the moment since they play the same position. Freeman was basically just as good offensively (118 wRC+ compared to 120 for Goldshmidt) in the majors despite being 2 years younger and facing a full year of big league exposure which gave pitchers more of a chance to adjust to him. Add in the fact that he doesn’t have an obvious hole in his game, unlike Goldschmidt, and I just don’t see how you can prefer Goldy over him. Just reminds me of Chris Carter all over again. Its great that he has immense power potential and walks a lot, but there is a lot more to baseball than just those two things.

There were a lot of great rookies last year, but I think that Goldschmidt is going to become a premier power threat, something that when combined with Arizona’s ballpark will lead to some monster numbers.

Domonic Brown
I’m frankly amazed that there aren’t more votes for this guy! He was the consensus #2 guy around here at the beginning of the season. What exactly has changed about him, among his supporters? Incidentally, I am not one of them, just curious.

He was a rookie in 2010

that's not right
only 62 at bats in 2010. And, was called up at the end of July so he wasn’t up for 45 days before expanded rosters kicked in. 2011 is Brown’s rookie year.
I stand corrected

Dayan Viciedo!
Very, very overlooked player, in my opinion.

Ogando
Based on the official major league definition he definitely wasn’t a rookie going into this year as he had spent far more than 45 days on the Rangers roster in 2010 even though he pitched less than 50 innings Nonetheless he received a considerable number of votes in the SBNation rookie of the year voting for this past season. I know that we have sometimes used a simpified definition of rookie status based simply on having pitched 50 mlb innings. By that standard this past season was his rookie year.
What say you all on Ogando? In this poll or not?
Well D
was he on last year’s rookie vote in this format? If he wasn’t, he should be on this year right? Personally, I think of last year as his rookie year but, he has to be a rookie in one of these years I’d think.

isn't there a games pitched clause in the eligibility rules?
because Ogando pitched in 44 games in 2010

he was on the roster more than 45 days
during the period of 25 man roster, which is how he used up his eligibility in 2010 without pitching 50 innings.
BA also uses a 30 appearance
mark for relievers for prospect eligibility. So I’d guess between service time and the appearances it’s ok to not include him here, though it doesn’t really matter either way I guess.

to answer your question...
yes, he was on although he didn’t get a single vote. Although he didn’t get a single vote and would undoubtedly do better if given another chance, he is in pretty good company in not having gotten a vote last year with, among others, Michael Cashner, Brennan Boesch, Alcides Escobar, Gaby Sanchez and Sergio Santos. While I want to remain consistent with what I did last year I also want to be consistent with the rookie definition being used in the community prospect poll going on at the same time as this. I’ll try to take some time to check if there is anyone I am missing who is in a similar situation and to make sure they are considered in one poll or the other but not both.
