Community Positional Prospect #4 RUNOFF
This is our first runoff of the year. After 92 total votes, there is a virtual tie between Manny Machado (29 votes - 31.5%) and Devin Mesoraco (28 votes - 30.4%). The 35 votes that went to other players certainly could have a decisive impact on this race. The winner of this runoff will be declared the Positional Prospect #4, and the loser will have to fight it out in poll #5.
POSITIONAL PROSPECT LIST TO DATE:
#01 - BRYCE HARPER - 59.2%
#02 - MIKE TROUT - 38.8% (In Poll #1)
#03 - JURICKSON PROFAR - 52.9%

Quick Question
In the case of a 2 person run-off such as this. What keeps us from saying for example Machdo is 4, Mesoraco is 5 instead of putting the loser back in the poll?
Was
wondering the same thing. I guess potentially every person who voted for Machado (in your example) in the original poll would have taken someone over Mesoraco.
Still, hypothetically Mesoraco will run away with the next poll, quickly making it a non-issue I guess.

Well it wouldn't take every person.
Jesus Montero received 9 fewer votes than Mesoraco. It would take roughly that many (a little less probably) to have a Montero/Mesoraco run-off. It is pretty unlikely that anyone else could rise up the ranks though.
There might be times where there is a real big gap between #2 and #3, where it might be reasonable to move the loser on as well, but I am not going to be doing that, unless people think that generally it is a good idea, or specifically people seem to be in favor of that in a particular poll (sort of like the Harper/Trout thing).

Makes sense.
Was one of the things I thought about when writing my question, just was lazy and didn’t go check the margin between 2 &3
Machado's ability to stick at SS vs. Mesoraco's defense at C
if the concerns of the above are about the same, then i think Mesoraco should be the pick. catcher is a more premium position than shortstop, and he’s going to be able to contribute in the majors next year whereas Machado is still two years away at least. i don’t think Machado’s upside as a potentially better hitter can cover the other two benefits.
Manny Machado
It looks like many of the people who liked Jesus Montero, Anthony Rendon or, Wil Myers in the last poll mostly voted Manny Machado. Did some Age Relative to League guys get thier votes in for double M, maybe? Montero, Myers, and Rendon are all younger than Mesoraco and, of course, Machado is younger than all of them.

Mesoraco is closer
Higher floor, above average defense at a premium position, and above average stick for catcher. I like Machado (had him at five on my personal list), but I think Meso has an edge over him just due to his MLB-readiness.

I see where you are coming from
. . . a catcher who can hit and, actually play the position is nothing to sneeze at. That said, the idea that his floor is higher is theoretical. I personally believe that the higher ceiling player usually has a higher floor as well, unless there is a good reason to think otherwise – an actual reason that manny Machado, the player, has a specific flaw about him that I should notice.

Well he still has a lot of developmental hurdles ahead of him
How does he do in AA? Does his defense improve or regress and move him off SS? If so, to what position?

Would people like it
If I edited the headlines so people could quickly see what the current pitching/positional/overall polls were. Not sure how I’d do it, maybe…
Community Positional Prospect #4 RUNOFF
…or something like that?
Anyway
I mean putting a star (or bullet) before and after the headline if that is the active one. Or any other idea.

I think ity is obvious because it is at the top of the page.

You are doing a great job, by the way.

I think
it would help. Just do (CURRENT) or something like that in parentheses. Sometimes doing all 3 (positional, pitching, and overall) they get mixed up and out of order.. or maybe I’m retarded.
