Community Pitching Prospect #1
It seems like overall people were happy with separating the lists into a positional list and a pitching list, then combining them into an overall list. I am going to get this started, and I'll take some type of ownership over this list, but if others want to chip in, or if people want someone else to take over, that is fine with me. We've been talking too long about getting this started, so I figured I might as well do it.
I believe we used 7% as the level a prospect must achieve if he's to remain on the list but certainly this can be tweaked. Anyone who feels this percentage should be changed, please mention it in the discussion. Make sure you suggest potential new candidates/testers as well, so we can keep a full list to vote on.
We will be using the +1 system. If there is a close vote, we'll do a tie-breaker. I feel strongly that we should only have heads up tie-breakers, not 3 way ones, but I'll do it however the majority thinks is best.
Without further delay, let's start with these 10:
CANDIDATES:
Matt Moore, Julio Teheran, Shelby Miller, Tyler Skaggs, Jameson Taillon, Jacob Turner, Drew Pomeranz, Gerrit Cole, Trevor Bauer, Dylan Bundy

Might be the strongest #1 not named Strasburg we’ve had for awhile.
Complete this analogy
Matt Moore is to Stephen Strasburg as Julio Teheran is to…
..Stephen Strasburg
Matt Moore & Julio Teheran are pretty similar in an overall sense to me actually.
I don't think you've seen Matt Moore pitch often enough then :)

Yeah.
Moore is just a beast. Most fun I have had in watching a prospect come up besides for Strausburg (pitchers, obviously).

This should be the easiest choice of the entire list.

Arodys Vizcaino should probably be added
Zach Wheeler, Enny Romero, Jarred Cosart also suggestions

I doubt Enny
makes the top 50. He’ll get plenty of chances to make it though.

We were thirty deep in suggestions
So figured I throw a few out for the tail end of that group.

next ten
In no particular order: AJ Cole, Taijuan Walker, Hultzen, Peacock, M. Perez, Odorizzi, Syndergaard, Vizcaino, Parker, Tyrell Jenkins.
Not a Braves homer...
but Vizcaino and Delgado belong comfortably in the next tier. I’d take either of them over the trio of Mariners that people have thrown out there as testers.
ill take Hulten and Walker over Delgado
and Hultzen over Viz

Yu Darvish?
Should we include him? I seriously doubt he would be able to beat out Matt Moore, but if we want him included, we’ll need to put him on in the next poll just in case.
by auclairkeithbc on Nov 6, 2011 12:58 PM EST up reply actions
I wouldn't
He isn’t a member of an MLB team yet.
by cookiedabookie on Nov 6, 2011 1:05 PM EST up reply actions
suggestion
just go without him until it’s clear he’ll be posted and we become awash in information about the guy. At that point, we can run a poll to see where everyone thinks he can inserted.
If it’s generally agreed to as the solution beforehand, hopefully not too many people will bitch when the time comes. Hard to see trying to figure out how to vote for him now.
I'll do whatever people want
So hopefully a lot of people will add their 2 cents.
by auclairkeithbc on Nov 6, 2011 1:08 PM EST up reply actions
Just to clarify
My suggestion is just to wait until his arrival is really certain, then run a thread to calculate the average position people think he should be slotted in at.
IIRC, this is kind of what happened with Matsuzaka, where he ended up being placed with an asterisk.
sounds reasonable
no point voting on him until he’s actually posted.

Danny Hultzen should be an option
I like him more than a number of guys on this list.

Well he'll maybe get on next
I looked at about 5 or 6 different early off-season lists, and it was pretty clear that Hultzen of all the new guys should be left off. I am sort of indifferent. He was definitely one of the “just misseds” along with Martin Perez.
by auclairkeithbc on Nov 6, 2011 1:02 PM EST up reply actions
I may be high on him
But I consider him the 8th best pitching prospect in baseball.

That is close to average from what I could tell
Some had Bundy outside the top 10, some had Pomeranz outside the top 10, some had Hultzen outside the top 10. Hultzen seemed like he had the least support, but he’ll get on the list soon, starting next poll.
by auclairkeithbc on Nov 6, 2011 2:59 PM EST up reply actions
I agree with you and, have him ranked similarly.

Same as positional list
I would hold out on candidate turnover for a few rounds.
Also, we should add an “Other” category, which we have had in the past.
by cookiedabookie on Nov 6, 2011 1:06 PM EST up reply actions
Sure
I’ll add an “OTHER” section for the next polls. I’m pretty sure Moore and Harper/Trout are not going to be bested by an “other” this time.

Jarrod Parker?
I’ll take him over skaggs, pomeranz, tehearan, and possibly bauer
Parker will be good
but not that good

Moore throwing a shutout so far
Surprises me to not see even one vote for Teheran
There are two votes for Trevor Bauer :)

i would probably only take Matt Moore
over Trevor Bauer
Would have voted for Julio Teheran actually
Close though.
No
We tried that two years ago, people were rec’cing multiple players and there is no way to stop that. The honor system doesn’t work unfortunately.

Sometimes
The specific problem we had then was votes made to spite another candidate in a close race. It would be nice if these issues weren’t a problem, but unfortunately they always are.

I think if we go with my idea for the overall poll
In the Community Prospect Discussion thread, we’ll avoid a large portion of spite voting.
