Singleton ...

I voted for Franklin here but forgot about Singleton … I have them pretty close.

Well

Singleton is already in the rotation…he’s graduated from the tester pool.

HJ Lee

Just went back to his stats page to prepare an argument for him here, and came away feeling less comfortable. Nice base stats for sure, but I had forgotten they were at A+. Is he really measurably close to the majors than guys like Segura, Franklin, and C, who can likely stick at their respective positions and have more upside with the bat?

my issue with ranking lee here

is sort of along those lines – i just don’t think he’s nearly as polished as some believe. Leaving aside the reports out there, his offense slipped dramatically after that red hot April. Offensively, he’s still closer to the player that he was in the Cubs system – a slap hitting, take advantage of his speed guy, which is perfectly fine, but not nearly as enticing as the guy that posted that ridiculous April line. Defensively, he’s improved a bit, but still has to be more consistent and stop making some silly mistakes at times.

This isn’t meant to bash Lee – he’s a very good shortstop prospect who should be good with the glove in time and has offensive potential and should have a good enough “hit tool” that, combined with his speed, will give him some offensive value (even if the power doesn’t develop). I just don’t think he’s nearly that close to being ready offensively (and defensively), and as such, find it hard to place him top 20 on a positional prospect list for now That said, a couple guys got on before this that I probably wouldn’t have voted for, so that’s obviously just my take.

I'm going with Grandal here

There just aren’t that many very good hitting catchers to be had. Lavarnway obviously can hit, but his defensive game isn’t really close to Grandal’s from all I’ve read. Gary Sanchez is interesting, but so young and more flawed…he does have a monster upside though.

Here’s a positive report on Grandal from this November.

Grandal is next for me

After BJax, for all the reasons you stated.

Don't forget Wilin Rosario

Floor looks like Arencibia with a gun … could be much much better than that. Lost a year due to injury but should be in the majors sometime in 2012.

I think Wilin is clearly behind Grandal

I mentioned him in my post, but deleted that sentence before posting it.

I liked Wilin last year

Ranked him about the same as the community (25 me vs. 26 community), but man he had a terrible year. His BB% and is ISO dropped, and his K% increased, all while repeating the league. He was a below average offensive player in AA last year – 90 wRC+. He still has some solid D, but I am much more skeptical of his bat this year than I was last year. If it doesn’t improve, his ceiling looks like a Miguel Olivo with better D, which would be a 2-2.5 WAR player – a solid starter, but not much else.

wasn't bad for a catcher coming off a major knee injury

frankly, I was pretty surprised. catching 95 games while playing high-caliber defense was a major accomplishment for him, in my book. the bat may bounce back next year, now that he can spend the offseason on baseball activities as opposed to PT.

how is it that Josh bell is so undervalued at this point? sure he’s young, but 40 hr potential.
