Will Middlebrooks
Cecchini’s all kinds of interesting, and has a huge helium factor if he can log a full season and all, but shouldn’t we put Middlebrooks on as a tester before we test the guy who’ll be behind him both on the Red Sox depth chart and likely on all the big name team prospect lists this winter? WM isn’t a fantastic prospect or anything, but probably a top 30 position player. He’s nowhere near getting voted in, but he should be in the next 15-20, which probably means he should be in the tester pool.

question
Is there any merit to using second place votes in these polls, to possibly avoid run-offs?

I don't think so
2nd place votes don’t decide runoffs anymore than 3rd or 4th or 5th place votes do. it also makes things a bit messier, and takes away a little of the dynamic nature of these things, where several people drive the interest in a player and end up pulling people on board.

Ok
As long as we find the run-offs themelves dramatic and, not a nuisance :) I don’t mind them, I just though second place votes might make a good tie-breaker before it gets to that point. I guess I just find it interesting to see who people would take second. I see your points though.

Brett Jackson
I didn’t vote for him here, but he’s coming up really soon for me. I know he has his detractors because he doesn’t have supreme tools, but I think he has above-average tools all-around. He’s posted a .292/.393/.491 line throughout the minors, has a good arm in the OF, and can probably play anywhere in the OF. I think there’s a lot of value in solid D, with a possible 20/20 offensive output yearly, even if he might not have a super high ceiling.
I have him at 10
It may be higher than most, but I think he has an all-star floor (meaning he is one of the prospects I am most confident in having at least one all-star season). I could see somewhere on a Chris Young/Steve Finley/Mike Cameron/Jim Edmonds spectrum, 3 WAR-floor type player.

I'm closing this poll.
After 24 hours with 26.5% of the vote, Francisco Lindor has been elected Community Positional Prospect #13. He only won by a 3 vote margin, but in the 3-Way Runoff for Positional Prospect #12, using the 2nd place votes of Alonso voters as 1st place votes for Lindor/Starling, Lindor won that runoff 32-29 as well. With a 4.5% margin of victory in this poll, and a 5.0% margin of victory in that runoff, I feel it is safe to move Lindor along. I prefer Starling and voted for him in both polls, but it just doesn’t make sense to do another runoff.
