Community Pitching Prospect #7 Three-Way RUNOFF
After a virtual 3 way tie between Danny Hultzen, Dylan Bundy, and Jameson Taillon, we are going to have a 3 way runoff. I'm not a huge fan of 3 way runoffs because they aren't perfectly conclusive, but there is really no other way to go about it. Hopefully the 20 people who voted for someone other than those 3 will settle this.
PITCHING LIST SO FAR:
#01 - MATT MOORE - 91.0%
#02 - JULIO TEHERAN - 57.3%
#03 - SHELBY MILLER - 66.7%
#04 - TREVOR BAUER - 40.0%
#05 - TYLER SKAGGS - 30.0%
#06 - GERRIT COLE - 24.3% (65.2% In Runoff)

If this ends up as a two way race somehow
Let’s say 26-25-19 or something…should the 26 guy win or should we do another runoff? We are still pretty early in the list and getting it “wrong” could have a pretty big domino effect. Later on, I’d care less, but IF it ends up something like that, would people be ok with a 2 way runoff after this? Hopefully, it won’t be needed of course.
Of the 20 people that voted for someone other than these 3 in the open poll...
12 have voted in this poll, 4 for Bundy, 4 for Taillon, 4 for Hultzen. So we still have the other 8 that can help decide this race, plus people who missed the open poll voting all together.

and one guy who chnged his mind, maybe there will be others others
. . . though, I guess that doesn’t happen a lot. Though, occasionally there isn’t a lot of evidence deciding between two guys, just what we project them to be.
I’m in favor of running off the top two as well, by the way.

I think we should do another runoff of the top two
But only if they are within one vote. Two or more, call it.

Gotta
do another runoff if one player lags behind the other two, while the other two are a vote or three off.

Just a suggestion
We could do a special, three-way-vote, with these three guys using the 3-2-1 points for 1st-2nd-3rd if we dont get any separation here soon. I think it would be fun to see how it shakes out that way.
Even if everybody sticks to thier first choice, it’d be decided by who we think is second or third best among these guys.
Just an idea.

You
could just switch back to Taillon haha.

I want to Man
I’m an M’s fan . . . I like how he looks in the AFL . . . think he could/might jump right into the M’s rotation in next year but, none of that has anything to do with who is going to have the best major legue career.

-1 why?
natural disadvantage to hultzen who plays on west coast and could potentially have many more fans out there.
by DeathSpeculum on Nov 14, 2011 3:30 PM EST up reply actions
actually
an advantage for him, because of when this poll was started. either way, i’m leaving it open for 24 hours.
by auclairkeithbc on Nov 14, 2011 3:50 PM EST up reply actions
true
regardless, an arbitrary milestone like that just seems, well, arbitrary.
The 3-2-1 voting is a much better idea and should seperate hultzen from taillon and bundy. Obviously Bundy hasn’t yet proven anything at the Pro level, so if you’re voting for him it’s based on speculation and potential/ceiling and those who weigh ceiling more should have taillon and bundy close – and ahead of hultzen.
obviously?
if you believe reports, Bundy’s floor should be higher than Taillon’s. he’s more polished and closer to the majors than Taillon is.
i don’t think it’s obvious at all how the various Bundy voters (of which I am one) would end up voting when it came to Taillon vs. Hultzen (I personally would go Hultzen ahead of Taillon)
by blue bulldog on Nov 14, 2011 4:53 PM EST up reply actions
On the other hand
I have Taillon and Bundy ahead of Hultzen for just that reason that Death Spec mentioned. Also, not saying you are wrong but, its interesting you think Bundy is closer to the majors than Taillon when Bundy is 19 and Tailon is 20.
" It's never just a game when you're winning" - George Carlin
just going off the draft report
people were saying that Bundy would likely start in A+ next year, and that he was likely to reach the majors very quickly for a high-schooler (someone was saying he could reach the majors sometime in 2013)
by blue bulldog on Nov 14, 2011 9:25 PM EST up reply actions
bundy could reach more quickly and honestly
I’d prolly put bundy ahead of taillon in terms of value – mostly due to ceiling, but how can you put the floor of a guy who’s never pitched pro ball ahead of taillon?
hultzen’s cute and maybe even underrated stuffwise, but come on. he should be #3 here and it’s not close. don’t know many, nay any, GMs that would take hultzen over taillon or bundy. the ONLY reason to do so would be a need for someone now – which JT and bundy obviously cannot meet.
nobody takes potential and likely aces over top notch #3 guys/solid 2’s.

Hultzen, Taillon, Bundy
This one’s a nailbiter, I think we should do a runoff Hultzen vs Taillon
We'll definitely runoff the top 2
After 24 hours. It is becoming less likely that Bundy will make it (despite my vote for him), with the flood of new voters from the Mariners website, but you never know. Something could happen in the next couple hours.
by auclairkeithbc on Nov 14, 2011 8:10 PM EST up reply actions
Even if Hultzen
Gets a few more votes and the others stay the same, we basically need another runoff.

Gotta give credit
To the Seattle fans from their SB Nation page. Somehow they are coming out of the woodwork to vote in this thread for the first time. Coincidence? Hmmm.
Haven't you heard
Where you rank on the minorleagueball community prospect list determines your future success. Can’t blame Mariners fans for turning out to make sure Hultzen turns out better.
Ha
Well it also seriously increases his publicity nationwide. Top 15 on our overall list vs top 20 is like the difference between Alec Baldwin and Billy Baldwin as far as noteworthiness goes.
by auclairkeithbc on Nov 14, 2011 7:27 PM EST up reply actions
Ok, it hasn't been QUITE 24 hours
But we’ve had the most votes yet and with people flooding in from other sites, Hultzen and Taillon have created a little separation. With 34 and 33 votes respectively, Hultzen and Taillon will go on to a 2 man runoff, Bundy (my favorite) finishing with 28 votes.
