liking the brisk pace!

Hope we can keep it up as the offseason progresses. If we succeed in doing so we’ll have one of the first lists out, and not overly influenced by the experts and other outside sources.

This one looks like it might be a really close one

They have been generally getting closer, and the top 6 vote-getters from last poll (after Skaggs), are all guy with very few pro innings pitched.

Next five

Taillon, Hultzen, Cole, Pomeranz, Paxton

by cookiedabookie on Nov 10, 2011 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

Same 5 plus 1

I have Hultzen, Taillion, Cole, Walker, Paxton, Pomeranz. I like the success the Mariners have had with pitching prospects recently, so that helps Hultzen and Paxton as well as Walker

by tarheels24 on Nov 10, 2011 9:22 PM EST up reply actions

I am much more hesitant with HS arms

Have him ranked 16. But had Taillon at 20 last year, and 6 this year, so he could definitely move up quick.

by cookiedabookie on Nov 12, 2011 2:46 AM EST up reply actions

What separates one of these pitchers from all the others?

Pomeranz made it to the Show after having an apendectomy and looked good.

by Traindogger on Nov 10, 2011 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

He did

then again, so did Brad Peacock. Also, I imagine that all of these guys will pitch in the big leagues at one point. Do we have to wait ’til then to rank them?

by casejud on Nov 10, 2011 10:55 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah ...

That’s what I said. We can ONLY rank guys who have been to the show.

by Traindogger on Nov 11, 2011 10:32 AM EST up reply actions

What I am really saying here ...

Is if you consider ceiling AND likelihood to reach that ceiling, Pomeranz gets a leg up on these others due to what I think now we can say is a higher floor. There were concerns that he lacked a third pitch and might be limited to a #2 starter at best … I think he has shown he has the upside of a #1 and carries significantly less risk than the other guys on this list based on performance at advanced levels.

Bundy v Tailon

I sure would like to a reasoned argument for Bundy being clearly ahead of Tailon. Not saying there isn’t one but, I’d like to hear it.

Here’s a question for folks who prefer Bundy . . would you have prefered Bundy at each pitchers draft time or, were you negatively swayed by Taillon’s minor league season?

fwiw

Callis at BA (i believe, it may have been someone else) said that if Bundy, Taillon, A. Bradley were in the same draft, that’s the order in which he would have selected them

by blue bulldog on Nov 10, 2011 11:08 PM EST up reply actions

better command, deeper repetoire

I like Bundy more now than I did Taillon last year, but Taillon didn’t make enough progress for me this year for his head start to be the kicker. Not that he really had a bad season though. Just not a great one.

Darvish

i’m SURE he has already been mentioned somewhere, but if guys like nishioka were included in these polls last year, why can’t darvish be included this year? im interested in hearing where people would have him ranked…i probably would’ve thrown him in behind moore but right there with teheran/miller in the race for #2

by jwa1417 on Nov 10, 2011 11:07 PM EST reply actions

I'm going to move this to a runoff

Realistically with 4 players getting over 10 votes, there are quite a few divergent opinions overall. Right now Cole and Hultzen each have 18 votes (8 more than the 3rd place player). I don’t see the point in waiting a few more hours to see if Cole or Hultzen breaks away (pretty unlikely), when we can just have a runoff now and let the other half of the voters have a say in their placement. Bundy or Taillon aren’t catching them, so it is b/w those 2 anyway.
