mathisrocks5 Top 10 2nd Base Prospects

Ive become a fantasy/prospect addict the past few months and want to put my out my own list of Top Prospects at each position. Not to confuse anyone, this is not a fanasy ranking. For this list I take into consideration long term potenital, not just immediate impact. Some of these guys could move off their position in the future, but for now i'm still going to rank them. Heres my top 10 2nd base prospects. Decided to only do 10 because its a weak position, also, I decided to include Jean Segura even though he could be moving to SS. Next: SS

  1. Jean Segura LAA (B+/A-): Segura is my favorite player on this list, but he is likely moving to SS where he can show of his strong arm. I can see him hitting #2 behind Mike Trout in the Halos lineup for years to come making one of the most dynamic duos in baseball. I can see him as a guy who can hit .290 with 40 doubles, 10-15 hrs and 30-40 sb's
  2. Jason Kipnis CLE (B+): A big breakout guy who was originally an OF. While his defense isnt great, if he can improve on it even just a little, he will be one of the best offesnive 2nd baseman in baseball.
  3. Dustin Ackley SEA (B+): People are overreacting about Ackley's season. He is still a very good hitter as he showed in the AFL and still has some speed. His biggest question is whether he will stick at 2nd, and I think the M's will do all they can to keep him there. I still think he will be a very good player in a few years.
  4. Brett Lawrie TOR (B/B+): Another guy who has questions about his glove. I'm not in love with his bat, but if he can stick at 2nd, he will still be one of the better offensive ones in the league.
  5. Danny Espinosa WAS (B): I love the power speed combo, think he can be a very good 2nd baseman or SS. Needs to improve on walks.
  6. Christian Colon KC (B): I like his bat and decided to put him at 2nd because of the Escobar addition. He wont be great, but I like his bat and his chance of being a solid 2nd baseman with a little power and speed.
  7. Tsuyoshi Nishioka MIN (B): A nice sign for the Twins out of Japan. He will be a decent hitting 2nd baseman with some speed and a solid glove.
  8. Reese Havens NYM (B-): A guy with a good power/speed combo like Espy but he needs to stay healthy.
  9. Charlie Culberson SF (B-): Culberson looks like he will also have a great bat for 2nd base, problem is he needs to improve his defense to stay at 2nd. I like the bat though.
  10. Johnny Giavotella KC (C+): I dont know much about him other than that he had a good minor league year at AA. If he can keep that up he will be a decent 2nd baseman.
