already voted...
but i want to see reymond fuentes’ name tossed around here. if engel beltre is getting love, then fuentes should too.
can someone explain the love for D'Arnaud?
i just don’t get what makes him so special or worthy of a spot on a top 50 prospect list for hitters. i know Law put him on his list, but i just see too much swing and miss.
he has a real nice swing though, and he was injured this year
I expect a nice bounce-back year from him.
i hope so
but a back injury for a catcher cannot be good in any way

Rosario's a much better prospect, both offensively and defensively
and Rosario’s already squatting and catching again at the Rockies Dominican facility, just not blocking pitches yet, while I don’t think D’Arnaud’s going to start until pitchers and catchers report, last I read. It’s a slower recovery time for a catcher that’s already a level or two behind developmentally.
Weird
For some reason, I like a lot of these guys (D’Arnaud, Lipka, Eibner, Colon, Arenado, etc) more than a lot of the last 10 guys who were voted in.
I do NOT get it
This here community lovos it some Ss’s who can – not – hit ( Dee Gordon, Jose Iglesias )
… and here is Hak Ju Lee who can hit, draw some walks , and RUN as well as Gordon does, or darned close!
He also projects to have a terrific glove at SS.
I’m beginning to think the reason people dont like him here is because they dont know who he is or, are getting his name confused with someone else.

Aren't you f 'ing cute?

Well
I could give Iglesias a pass because they practically stuck him in a AA ball, right away, and he held his own. Lee’s season in the Midwest League at age 19 > is still better than Iglesias’ in the Eastern League. In my opinion.
As far as Gordon goes, I don’t see how there is a comparison. You’d have to be blissfully, totally ignorant of age relative to league to not see that Leee is far, far ahead developmentally compared to Gordon. Lee at age 18 hit at a higher level, and hit better, than Gordon did when he was 20.
Shoot, at the very least, you can argue that Lee is just as good as both these guys right? I, of course, think HJ Lee is better than both . . . that and he’s my brother!

i think theres an argument over dee gordon...
i dont get the love….but as i said below, i think iglesias’ defense is more than enough to make him a better prospect than Lee

yeah
i wasn’t trying to completely piss on Lee. I like the guy, but i don’t see how any of Iglesias, Dee or Lee are good hitters at all. And because of that, i give a boost to the guys playing at higher leagues, though you could make a point about Lee being equal or better than Dee

Thats cool
I know, I know you probably want to see a bunch of homers or something but, for a SS – who was 19 all year- playing full-season ball for the first time, his bat was/is quite good.
Lg avg: .257 Lee.282
Lg Obp .333 Lee .354
Lg Slg .384 Lee .351
Good SS’s are allowed to a little below average in power, especially if everyone is 2 years older than them, on average.

I agree that Gordon shouldn't be rated as high as he is, probably not Iglesias either, although I think that's closer
Just as Iglesias would be, Lee’s probably a decent pick right around now, but so are a lot of other players. One of the issues I have is that defensive value is graded to average, and if you have so many great glove defensive shortstops coming in at once, that average line is going to go up, meaning these all glove types, as a group, are not going to be as valuable as a lot of people seem to think. Picking out the truly exceptional gloves of that wave is very difficult without better records of what’s actually taking place on the field. I think Iglesias and Lee may qualify, I have my doubts with Gordon, but like I said, there are not going to be as many defensive runs to save at the position in coming seasons.
I mentioned before that I also have an issue with Lee’s two year mandatory military service commitment, and how that will either impact his development or his MLB value, as it’s almost like knowing a pitcher has a very good chance of having to undergo TJ surgery. Plus I believe that the Midwest League was more of a hitter’s environment than usual this last season inflating Lee’s stats a bit.
iglesias projects to have quite a bit more defensive value
right?

I doubt it
Maybe I guess. I’ve heard Iglesias described as god-like with the glove, but I’ve also heard
Lee described as oustanding as well – including the report from Pilierre, I posted above.

Strong Praise
for Lee’s glove . . .
Lee is the type of defender that already looks like a Gold Glove at shortstop. And it would be only this type of player that could displace a player like Castro at shortstop. He’s that special on the defensive side of things. He has a plus arm, which allows him to complete some spectacular plays. What’s most impressive is how easy he makes some of these difficult plays look.
He circles the ball in the hole to his right very well, and makes throws consistently off his back foot as if they were routine. His hands are outstanding, and the range to both sides would be among the best in the majors right now. It’s high praise and risky to make such a comparison, but Lee plays the position like a stronger armed Omar Vizquel.

i think
you could place the word Lee with Iglesias or Gordon and it would still make sense
