Minors and Callups 9/8

I realize that most of the minors prospects are over and one with. I also realize that many here may or may not care who wins which minor league playoffs. There are still prospects playing of interest. There are still guys who will be prospects next year or who have just passed prospect status who folks care about. I'm focusing on the Nats two series, Eastern League semis (Nats vs. Pirates Tom Milone, who'll be on prospect lists next year vs. Rudy Owen, preseason Pirates no. 9 C+) and Carolina League Semis (Nats  vs. Orioles) three systems of interest to folks. Plus rehabs and other stuff are happening like Andy Pettite pitching for the Trenton Thunder.

So if you're interested post the lines you like and comment on 'em here. Enjoy!

Who is this destruction against?

Quality playoff opponent? Is he destroying any prospects that folks here would know?

It's playoffs, so that tells you something

QC is playing Kane County (A’s). Rashaun Dixon and Max Stassi are on that team I believe.

His 2nd Half

including tonight, has been pretty dominant. Has cut down his walks, and showed more command.

Right now, I’d say B+, but I can see the case for A-, especially considering his age. Still, I’d like to see in High A, AA continue his dominance before I move him up to A-.

Wouldn’t have bet on that.

Teheran is better

But you can make a really good argument that Moore is #2.

Hellickson should retain eligibility

I’m also a big fan of John Lamb and Randall Delgado. Lots of extremely talented young pitchers in the minors right now.

Perez

Even though he’s struggled this year, you have to give consideration to his age relative to the league (AA). I wouldn’t argue with the names above, but he’s still gotta be in the discussion, imo.

Turner

I still have Turner rated higher than Miller.

Simon Castro is another one up for argument.

Tom Milone - Harrisburg Senators (Nats)

5.2IP, 4H, 3R, 2ER, 2BB, 7K, 2R HR. Basically one bad pitch in the first. With a man on gave up a homer on an 0-2 pitch. After that pretty much nails. Struck out 4 of 5 batters at one point.

Great Lakes/Ft. Wayne

Matt Lollis 6IP 7H 0R 2BB 7K
Allen Webster 5IP 2H 1R 6BB 5K

Lollis takes the win thanks to an Everett Williams solo shot in the bottom of the fifth that accounted for all the scoring in the game. (Hey, they may be in low-A, but they’re still the Padres!)

Lollis now sports a 1.99 ERA in 95 innings across Eugene/Ft. Wayne this year with better than a 3:1 K:BB ratio. He’ll turn 20 on Saturday.

Lollis

Don’t know much about him, what’s he throw? Velocity (what does he sit at, and what’s his peak)? thanks.

by BryceHarper on Sep 9, 2010 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I've been reading

That he sits 91-93 with peak at around 96. They generally like his ability to command the fastball around the zone, but also has developed his curve significantly this year. They think with his size they can get him to add a few mph when he needs to dial it up.

Jeff Passan saying the hot new rumor is Rasmus for Moustakas in the offseason

Apparently said that on some KC radio. Seems like a weird proposition, but I guess it’d solve the Cardinals’ 3B search while KC can move Gordon back to 3B while also upgrading their play at a premium defensive position?

Probably just bs but its always fun to speculate.

by oplaid on Sep 9, 2010 2:16 PM EDT reply actions

Doesn't really make sense for KC.

You’ll have Moustakas for more of KC’s good years than you will Rasmus. The prospects all have to peak/get good at the same time for KC to be contending.

Deal with the positional issue when Moustakas actually hits the MLB.

Needs moar dingerz.

by Blicks on Sep 9, 2010 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions

not gonna lie

i’ve actually thought about this ever since i heard the Rasmus stuff. very risky for both sides, you don’t wanna see the guy you give up become a super star for a cross state rival, and they both have that upside.

i dunno if it’s a straight up deal, but those are the starting points.

R.I.P. cwhitman412, Frederick0220, & Mets2k9

by doublestix on Sep 9, 2010 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

it'd be interesting!

Risky, sure . . .but both players are premium talents. The tradeoff for getting fewer of Rasmus’ controlled years is that Rasmus has actually performed in the majors, and let’s face it, that’s a bigger deal than most prospect-watchers would like to admit.

by mrkupe on Sep 9, 2010 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions

+1

I agree with this evaluation of the tradeoff. And Rasmus brings more to the table defensively. I think KC would do well with this.

by FI2 on Sep 9, 2010 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

What a challenge trade that would be

but it seems like KC has a few potential CF candidates in Robinson, Dyson, Orlando, and Blanco (granted none have the talent of Rasmus), while Moose is really the only 3B in the short-term unless you count Betemit (I don’t think they would move Gordon back to 3B after this year’s OF transition).

by deezle on Sep 9, 2010 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

agree on Gordon

very much doubt they’d move him back.

R.I.P. cwhitman412, Frederick0220, & Mets2k9

by doublestix on Sep 9, 2010 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions

It'd certainly be fun to see something like that happen, who knows if it could work out

The Cardinals also have more 3B candidates than they have potential outfield replacements, at the moment. I guess they could put Jay in centerfield and Allen Craig in right, but that’s not all that of an exciting option. At 3B David Freese will still be around next season, Matt Carpenter could be a useful player, and of course Zack Cox is waiting in the wings. It looks like they want to try Zack Cox at 2B, but I’m not sure I’d be optimistic about his chances of sticking there.
