problems with fip and other sabermetric stats
an article on problems that you have with fip and other sabermetric stats would be very interesting. I know you respect and use these stats, but I also these stats aren’t the only way to judge players
Why don't you just write a fanpost on your problems with the advanced statistics since you obviously have them.
I wouldn’t think it normal to ask somebody else to write an article with your opinion. Or you could say “An article on YOUR thoughts of FIP” rather than trying to make him write an article on your own opinions.

I’d love it if you answered a few questions on twitter like Jim Callis does, just a short, one worder for most questions. I think he ends up doing like 5-6 of those a day, so just a few when you had time would be awesome
Usually I agree but Arcia could probably hit a bounced pitch out of the park right now. -KBR
Yeah, I still don’t get the appeal of twitter to be honest. I can’t read it with my phone since my phone does’t get internet.

think of it as being one step away from
slapping your tit and saying “Kirk to Enterprise”
I don't either
I stopped twittering awhile back…but then again, I’ve never been good at short sentences anyway heh.

I find Twitter, and facebook to a lesser extent, very “Newspeak”…..it limits thought and constrains language.

I find it to be good practice
I have a tendency to be too verbose in my writing. Twitter forces you to find ways to say things succinctly.
There’s value in that, and in shorter forms of writing, as long as you take it as a supplementary source and not your only source of information.

i dunno
I hear what you are saying, but there is an elegance to the English language in particular, nuances of meaning, shades of thought, that get lost.
I’m reading Ulysses S. Grant’s memoirs right now and it is a masterpiece of writing…lots of nuance.
I guess I say I find things like Twitter very confining as a writer. Even the blog format with the pressure to make as many posts as possible is something that gets to me sometimes. This may just be burnout talking

Is it ALL that different
From message board posts?

Well...
I guess you sort of spoke to that as well.

overview of previous Sickels ratings
can you break down years by A+, A, A-, B+, B, B- and C+ so we can get a sense of what number of each on a team represents a better than average system?
Hitter grades vs. pitcher grades
I know you’ve said in the past that you don’t like to mix hitters with pitchers and that the grades don’t translate evenly from one to the other. Is there any chance you can explain the differences? Is an A- grade pitcher more like an A grade hitter or a B+ grade hitter?

Bobby Borchering vs Matt Davidson Smackdown
This was suggested last go-round and got some +1’s. Not sure if you aren’t interested or just liked some other suggestions more.
other guys
I kind of also associate put Ryan Wheeler there in ARI, Sweeney in FLA, and Dominguez in TB with those two guys. I don’t know if there is a precedent for comparing more than two guys, or if those seem like interesting ones, but I’d at least be curious to see how they would fare in a prospect royal rumble.
by Scott the Shot on Sep 18, 2010 1:56 AM EDT up reply actions
nah
Wheeler and Sweeney (TB) are QUITE far behind those two in my opinion. Dominguez (FLA) is probably considered better by some, and worse by others but he is not comparable. He is a very good defensive 3B, and doesn’t really have the offensive upside of the defensively challenged Borchering/Davidson.
*I am going to just assume you meant Sweeney in TB and Dominguez in FLA even though you switched the teams in the post.

Dominguez is the only one that I think sticks at 3B
He’s easily the best prospect of the bunch. I think he’ll be a .260/.340/.440 type of hitter with excellent defense and that is something that I’m very interested in. I’m still not sure whether I give him a + or leave him at a B.
The next highest guy is Davidson, and he’s only a B-. The bat looks pretty good, but the defense is reportedly pretty horrid.

2010 draftees
I know it’s early to say, but I find it difficult to find anything online about how 2010 draftees rate with current prospects. Even if it takes going out on a limb, I think it would be interesting to see what guys drafted this year might make the top 100 or top 50.
Pitcher development
Jonah Keri recently wrote a long post highlighting the Rangers new approach at developing and maintaining pitchers intended to increase stamina, avoid injuries, ect:

I’m curious about your thoughts on this approach as it pertains to the development of minor league pitchers and the avoidance of injuries.

Kind of late
but I’d love to see a Arizona fall Preview. Top players from each team. Things to watch.
Rangers & Astros swap of AAA farm clubs.
What do you think is behind this?
(1) Alignment of Ryan-Sanders AAA Round Rock franchise with Nolan Ryan’s Rangers?
(2) Round Rock’s dissatisfaction with Houston organization’s minor league talent?
(3) Both?
(4) Something else?
