Only off by a month and a day....not bad
"Hitting the ball was easy. Running around the bases was the tough part."- Micky Mantle
And my fantasy team rejoices!
I’m going to love getting Volquez and Zimmermann back into the fold. At least, I hope I will. So far each one’s control seems about what’s expected of them, based off their profiles as pitchers, so hopefully it isn’t too big a deal when they reach the majors. God knows I need the help with Anderson (who is also starting a rehab this week right?) and now Peavy on the DL.
Overheard in SA
Heard somebody in the next section over (where the scouts are) on Northwest Arkansas CF Derrick Robinson’s speed: “I’d give him an 8”

yep
Been watching him VERY closely. Not sure what he is yet, but I can tell you that he isn’t Joey Gathright.
Pineda going tonight

Engel Beltre scouting report
from the continuing series over at BBTiA, Jason Parks.
His overall game needs refinement, but his raw tools are showing signs of maturity and have begun the process of actualizing into on-the-field baseball skills. With the ability to hit for average, flash plus power potential, steal bases, and play above-average defense at a premium defensive position, Beltre has the tools to become a very, very good major league player. Tool-based grade: 58; first-division starter at the major league level.

Mark Rogers
5 IP – 1 H (“soft” single by Dee Gordon) – 0 R – 2 BB – 7 K.
7:0 GO:FO
73 pitches – 41 strikes
I really feel like Rogers could become a dominant reliever at the MLB level as soon as next year. I have no idea whether or not the Brewers are going to move him back to starting, but he’s definitely somebody I’m keeping my eye on, especially if he can get that BB rate down.

i consistently forget about him
still like him though. I think a strong showing for the rest of the year gets him back ont rack to be an SP
this year it's all about staying healthy
Not sure where his velocity is at as a SP, although last year is (rather miraculously) was throwing in his pre-injury range.
isn't it funny to live in a world
Where Mark Rogers is suddenly on the radar as a rising pitching prospect and Homer Bailey can’t stop being embarrassingly bad for more than 2 starts in a row?

Arencibia goes yard yet again
The day off yesterday doesn’t look to have slowed him.
He was a raging bust from the beginning
never liked him

Drew Cumberland
Somebody asked me about Cumberland in a different thread, but I figured that this would be the place where my comment would be most likely to be seen.
Cumberland’s plate approach isn’t bad, although he looks uncomfortable against LHPs, especially those who come inside on him. He has a pronounced open stance that he closes as a timing mechanism, and basically doesn’t use his lower body at all in his swing. He often ends up falling towards 1B out of his swing . . .reminds me of Kosuke Fukudome. Without much power, he’s forced to be aggressive and doesn’t let the ball get deep enough in the zone. I thought he had the potential to be a good ML hitter, but the more I see, the less I’m sold.
just read Trout is getting promoted after the Futures game

hey, question for you
Why is Chris Robinson in AA?
yeah, my bad
Confused the ex-Illini catcher with the Royals 1B. :)
i think he needs to be in Omaha
but until they can find a spot for KILA in KC (which apparently is difficult despite the #‘s), I don’t see him being moved up. plus, as i believe you’ve mentioned before, they’ve never been shy about pleasing their minor league affiliates, especially in Northwest Arkansas and Wilmington.

makes sense
A little weak to off-speed stuff, but those numbers look pretty legitimate to me. Kid’s got a nice bat.
