Not MiLB
but #31 for Bautista of the GS variety and off a RHP.
imagine
if Jay Bruce was doing what “the animal” Bautista is doing…there wouldn’t be a dry seat in this place.

I don't know man...call it wishful thinking, but his swing this year just looks so much better than it has in the past.
I could really see this as a Cliff Lee type rise, where everyone thinks it’s a fluke season, but he just keeps on impressing.
I mean, he is what he is: a low avg slugger (although his freakishly low BABIP is strange).
Barnese going today too for Charlotte
pretty bad day so far
4 IP / 3 R / 3 ER / 5 H / 1 HR / 2 BB / 2 K
Nathan Adcock going for A+ Bradenton:
Currently: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.
Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89
Hard work always beats talent if talent doesn't work hard.
Brett Lorin got rocked in WV, too.
4 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Ugh.

What else is new?

Mike Minor
6 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 11 Groundouts to 1 Flyout
Just about to post it
The 1 FO is a pop up to 1B. Also 59 strikes to 23 balls.
Has any pitcher moved up the rankings as much this year?
Michael Pineda

Not quite the same
He was mostly down because he missed a lot of last season with elbow soreness. Simply put, no one thought Minor was nearly this good.
Point taken though.
Minor
Keep in mind Minor changed his delivery this year. I don’t remember all the details off the top of my head, but his arm slot had moved in his Junior year, and the Braves changed it back. The slot change added I think 3-4 MPH on the fastball and better break on his offspeed pitches.
In short, he is basically a different pitcher than when he was drafted. That’s why noone thought he was nearly this good.
That was kind of my point
A lot of people that Pineda was a guy with a lot of upside, while Minor was seen as a low upside/high floor type guy. No one really considered the possibility that Minor could shoot up like this, because everyone thought they had a good feel for what he was.
I think its more than just the change in arm slot too. I said it at the time of the draft last year, but he seemed to have a pretty big timing flaw that was costing him velocity. He just wasn’t doing a good job linking the moving parts together. Maybe the change in arm slot has something to do with him getting that timing back, but arm slot alone isn’t going to add velocity like that.
No he wasn't
Although he probably should have been based on what he did in that High Desert environment.
Hell Pineda didn’t even make Goldstein’s top 15 Mariners prospects.
Neither made BA top 100, but in their “dream draft” Minor went 83rd and Pineda went 227th. And it doesn’t mean anything but in their own system Minor was ranked 4th and Pineda 6th.
I'm not sure that was really a general consensus
I had them close with a slight edge to Pineda as I’ve always liked him(own him in a handful of fantasy leagues), but I don’t know that most people would have had Pineda over Minor coming into the season.

hmm, regardless, I was referring more to in my own mind
but I had thought that was at least partly believed? Maybe I’m basing the opinions of the entire community (even outside this forum) off a few comments or positive (or negative) remarks here or there.
Good thing, too, since the Braves are lacking in pitching depth as an organization.

Still a heck of a call on your part
Definitely ahead of the curve on that one.
Love young guys with command and solid stuff with multiple pitches
I knew I was higher on him then most last year (I want to say he was in the 80s, I had him a spot or two after Melville, that worked out), and maybe its because I wasn’t around as often as I am now, but I felt he was a borderline top 100 guy last year, no?
Good call
I didn’t have him in my top 100, but I was very excited about him. Drafted him in a league or two before the season, and one last year that folded unfortunately. Wish I would have gone with my gut on Dwyer too though, could have had both.
http://bullpenbanter.com
Quick search only pulled up Lamb's name in one poster top 100 list
Mets2k9 had him #96.
Daveh333 had him # 136 in a top 150.
It doesn’t look like you posted a top 100 list so I guess we just have to take your word for it.
I didn't post one last year, no, if I still had my old computer I would post it, but that 6 year old monolith is dead
I think he was pretty well regarded, even outside of the top 100 lists.
Yeah it was mostly meant to be rhetorical
And I was more thinking about guys who we thought we had a good feel for that are suddenly a whole lot better than anyone would have thought.
Update
7 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 12 Groundout to 1 Flyout
Trade him lol!
I think that Wren may seriously consider moving Medlen now with the way Minor is performing.
Don't sleep on Joe Gardner
Through 5…2 H, 2B, 5Ks
I have to think Gardner’s made his way up quite a few lists too this year

Which Masterson?
The one who when he’s good can get it by you or make you pound it into the ground or the one who can’t get it by anyone without it being pounded into the seats? Cuz the former would be sweet.
by cursedcleveland on Jul 30, 2010 9:03 PM EDT up reply actions
good point
Masterson’s fatal flaw is a lack of a good changeup vs lefties. They just eat up his FB/SL.
Looking at Gardner’s splits, it seems lefties are giving him much trouble yet. Good sign.

Good to see the Os called up Josh Bell to sit on the bench.
Idiots. Let the kid work on his game at Norfolk.

Wigginton 2 games in a row.
I’m assuming the Os are attempting last minute showcasing, but cmon. What the hell is Wigginton gonna show in the last 2 games before the deadline thats gonna make teams go “man, I wish I really had wigginton on my team”.

After watching Greg Dobbs boot another ground ball tonight, in combination with his still crappy season line (which I’ll admit I’m too lazy to look up), maybe Ruben Amaro will say exactly that.

it is a show case
there are 3 to 4 teams on the fence about Ty. It’s more important to the team to make this deal happen in the next two days, then 12 AB

Kyler Newby
Looks like the D-Backs are stretching him out, maybe trying to turn him into a starter. As a closer for most of his minor league career, he put up some impressive numbers, especially from 2005-2008, where he only allowed 5 HR in 184.2 IP, with 237 Ks, and 73 BBs. He was ok last year in AA, but his K rate was way down and gave up too many HR. This year he looks back to his old form with a 54-15 K-BB ratio in 49.2 IP, though he has allowed 5 HR which isn’t great.
Anyway, he’s started 3 games in a row now, going 4 innings in each start. In those 12 IP, he has 15 Ks 3 BBs and has allowed only 10 hits (only 1 xbh, a double), and 3 runs (all coming in the 1st inning of his 2nd start). He’s 25 in AA (repeating the level after struggling a bit last season), but he’s come a long way since being drafted in the 50th round of the 2004 draft. He got called up last year, briefly, but didn’t pitch.
I like him.
oops
he went 5 IP, not 4. In the last inning he gave up a single, struck out 2 and walked 1, so as a starter, he’s pitched 13 innings, striking out 17, walking 4 giving up 11 hits (only 1 xbh a double) and 3 runs.

Jiwan James: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K
Hitting .360/.397/.421 in July, and .353/.395/.419 since the all-star break. It’d be nice to see some more power, but it’s hard to argue with his results over the last two months.
http://mvn.com/mlb-tossingtherosin/
Wil Myers
1-1 2 BB
Power has gone down a lot, somewhat attributed to Wilmington, but so far he has a 18/15 BB/K in High A in his first full season out of high school. He better start understanding Dayton don’t play that walking crap.
J.J. Hoover
5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 HBP
pretty nice debut
6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 1 HB

I just don't get the appeal of this guy to some people
He’s a decent prospect, but I’ve seen some people on here say that he could be a top 50 or higher prospect next year . . .I just don’t see anything about him to project to that kind of standing.
+1
No idea why people are all over him. Sure he’s projectable but there are tons of guys like that around. I half-way believe it’s because his name sounds “prospecty.” At least, that’s the best I’ve come up with so far…
you're kidding right
guys that throw 94-94 MPH with sink don’t come around every Moses burning bush
Wow Blackburn makes nearly identical money as Baker does now....

Re:
I’m assuming you meant 90-94.
Suffice it to say that I don’t buy that he’s sitting in the 93-94 range. Right handed latino pitchers who throw sit in the low 90s and touch 94 without a lot of secondary stuff are not that rare.
Re:
I just went and looked at his recent stats and I didn’t realize he had been so good the last 5-6 starts. I was basing my opinion on the preaseaon scouting reports and his so-so performance in the FSL. There’s more intrigue here than I realized…
for anyone that just focuses on statistics and ARL, I can see why there is some excitement
19 years old in the Appy League; 2% BB, 29% K, 60% GB in 47 innings so far. Solid velocity now, and at 6’ 4" there’s possibly more to project.
It would be nice however to see a scouting report on his secondary offerings.
http://www.twinstarget.com/2009-articles/december/top-15-prospects-7-adrian-salcedo.html
there is an off season scouting report I read. Decent mid 80s slider and a solid changeup.
Its not the case of a guy with one pitch who projects for more (Alex Colome cough cough), rather a guy with decent but not great stuff, great results, and projection.
Solid

You mean Oscar Taveras?
2-4, 2HR, 1K, 1BB tonight.
As a Cardinals fan I still don’t know much about him other than Lunhow says he’s a real prospect. Looks like it with his Rookie league numbers, as an 18 year old. Not as many walks as I like to see, though.
Andrew Cashner just got destroyed
- A. Cashner relieved S. Marshall
- C. Iannetta tripled to deep center, B. Hawpe scored
- I. Stewart homered to deep right, C. Iannetta scored
- C. Barmes singled to shallow right
- M. Mora doubled to right center, C. Barmes scored
- D. Fowler homered to deep right, M. Mora scored
- R. Spilborghs singled to left center
- B. Schlitter relieved A. Cashner
I wonder how often...
A pitcher comes into a game, and gives up a cycle to the first 4 batters he faces.

To Be Fair
A few of those singles were of the “seeing eye” variety.
I’m just kidding — looks like a rough night…
Rangers prospects
I’ll start with Engel Beltre left in the 1st inning with an injury to his shoulder after he crashed into the CF wall. Haven’t heard how bad it is.

Its a shame the aparrent progress he was making in the discipline department has taken a step back
But he still has good speed and an absolutely great glove. If he can maintain even a shred of his current power output then I like him going forward. Top 75 guy for me, but I may be high on him. Hot the last few months.
I like him a lot, a top-75 label isn't crazy.
He’s a good defender in center field. He’s got good base-stealing skills (27-for-32 on SB attempts this year). He’s showing more power than ever before.
He’s going to need a solid walk rate to make it in the big leagues, but he should make for a solid replacement for Torii Hunter pretty soon.
I like baseball.
