Wil Myers' promotion - too aggressive?
Given the way Eric Hosmer struggled with an aggressive promotion from Low to High A last year, I'm surprised the Royals are using the same tactic with Wil Myers. Granted, his production in the Midwest League has been very strong (unlike Hosmer's last year) but his defense is still a work in progress and it seems like he could benefit from a more deliberate development path. We've heard he may have to move off catcher eventually - is this a signal that it's happening even faster than expected?

I believe his bat can handle high-A right now
the promotion is exciting if nothing else… he may be even better than his fan club anticipated.
as for where he ends up defensively… I have no idea. its the Royals.
I read that somewhere
A few times, even.

they've made it pretty clear there's no plans to move him from catcher
i suppose they could just be saying that. if he’s still struggling mightily behind the dish by the end of next year and raking in AA, then maybe they’ll have to consider it. but for now, i don’t see it happening.

I don't see why a promotion would prevent him from developing as a catcher
Maybe they want to encourage him to keep working hard on it by showing faith, or maybe the coaching he’ll get will be different or better at the new level? I don’t know anything about the Royals’ coaches or ballparks, etc. but there are a lot of reasons this could be happening.
And if he struggles with the bat for a while, so what. He’s got lots of time to put it all together and I doubt a little struggle will kill his confidence given what he’s done so far.

Not sure
I guess there’s no reason he can’t continue to develop, but catcher is traditionally the longest development arc, so it seems logical that if they’re fast-tracking his bat, defensive considerations are secondary. If he’s comfortable offensively at Low A (and he obviously is) doesn’t that make it easier to commit extra instruction time to defense? If you push him to High A then he’s got both offensive and defensive adjustments to make.
I’ll glady admit that I don’t know the answer here – it just seems logical that he needs more defensive development and it’d be easier to do at Low A. But again I don’t know. I’m honestly asking. For all I know maybe their best catching instructor is at High A.

I don't have a whole lot of confidence that KC
is always handling it’s prospects in the best way (or its major leaguers for that matter.)

Its clear his bat is ready for another challenge...
As for his defense… is there any reason to believe its harder for him to learn to catch at a higher level…?
