Jonathan Singleton Scouting Video - Phillies
From Community Member Loop:
Here's a video I shot the other day of Philadelphia Phillies 1B Prospect Jonathan Singleton. It shows three at bats of his, a strikeout, a groundout and an RBI double. You can see his approach a little bit, as well as him getting fooled and also connecting in these three at bats. He wasn't as big as I expected him to be, maybe I'm just used to watching Ryan Howard.

good stuff
How did you get those kind of views? Were you actually on the field?
I’m a bit concerned about how that lower body is going to look in a few years, but he’s got some impressive power projection.
I wasn’t on the field, I just moved around. I sat in the first row without netting on the first at bat, put the camera through the net for the second at bat, and more towards third base on the third one. I added Singleton recently in a keeper league and my mom lives about 20 minutes from Lakewood (I live in NYC) and I was down there the other day so I took the drive up to check him out. I know how much run he gets on this site, so I brought my Canon 7D with me and took some video for you guys. I only included his swings or where he held up, there were some pitches he took that I didn’t put in the video. All in all, he was smaller than I thought he was going to be. Maybe I’ll get out there to see him again before the end of the season. Martin Perez pitched in Lakewood last summer, pissed I missed him.
that was some of the highest quality footage i've seen from a non-professional
great job loop

I'm surprised
that he swings with an amazingly minimal amount of effort.
He makes no movement towards the pitcher with his lower half, no stride at all, just a little timing step. His hips are relaxed and rotate with easily but not forcefully, and seemingly are very deceptive in terms of the amount of momentum he can generate with them. He does do a nice job of loading his hands early enough. He’s ready in plenty of time to launch into his very short looping swing.
The swing though looks very handsy for someone who has produce the numbers he has. One would expect with the minimal lower body movement he has, combined with the fairly moderate use of leverage in his swing that he wouldn’t be a huge power threat, but yet he has been… his wrist/hands look very quick in the clip, but when you view his mechanics as a whole they seem even more impressive in an almost Gary Sheffield/Frank Thomas. His hands drive his swing, and they look good now, but he could easily ADD POWER with a couple of tweaks to the mechanics of his lower half.
The one thing that really looks obvious to me in the video is his amazing selectivity. The quick hands and patience in concert should hold him in good standing when it comes to his peripherals at the higher levels and on into the majors. The power might tail off as this year goes on but the average and walks wont… I’m sold on his ability hit.
Thanks for the great video Loop
Like Rick Bosetti my goal in life is not to do well but to piss on things.
Oh no!
Looks like he went to the Delmon Young School of Baserunning.

Just dealt him...
in my dynasty league as part of a deal for Cliff Lee….hopefully that was okay as long as it helps me win!
