i agree it seems premature. think he’ll hit for some power but I’m not confident that he’ll hit more than .230 or so at first.

i'd have to say
it’s far more likely that he’ll replace werth after this year

The daily milb thread is something that I am sure a lot of people look forward to when coming to this site. I like that fact that its rec’d and at the top of the list rather than having to sort through meaningless MOD draft threads, among others.

Now that the Mock Draft is over
it’s probably not as necessary, but I don’t see the harm in it. The big thing is whoever rec’s it needs to unrec it after a day or two so we don’t end up with 5 of them in the Recc’ed area.

you sometimes get 4-5

Shouldn't be as much of one now though
with no more MOD threads to clutter up the FanPost section. I mean you set your list to 50 and you have posts going back 8 days WITH half or so of them being MOD’s.
http://bullpenbanter.com
My issue with it is this:
I look forward to these as much as the next person. They’re useful, and admittedly provide a great service to anyone just looking for notable performances.
That being said: The rec’d posts (and this is an issue that I had way back when with everyone mockingly recc-ing Dewey’s posts) should be a place for actual deserving content, things that take actual work and time to present. By having these every day, it means that, by default, any actually deservedly rec’d post will only be up there for 3-4 days, because all the rec’d daily posts will push it out. As someone who does occasionally try to put together interesting, discussion-producing posts (though I haven’t done so recently), I believe that’s somewhat problematic.
If this were just to keep the dailies at the top of the MOD threads, that’s perfectly fine, but even then, these dailies are only really useful for 24 hours anyway, and we haven’t had enough MOD threads to really push a daily thread out in its relevant timespan, other than when they first flew in like wildfire. The un-recc-ing is a great idea, and I remember that was the same principle guiding the community ranking threads, but nobody follows it. It’s the reason why we have a daily from 3 days ago remaining rec’d right now.
Anyway, just my $.02, but I don’t see the point in recc-ing these if there’s not even enough posts to push it out of sight in its relevant timespan.

I can think of a few players who might challenge that
I’m actually working on a top predraft list right now.
don't know
He’s a Grade A prospect right now, don’t have too many of those this year.
FYI, in a BA chat the other day, one of their guys mentioned that Trout would be top 20 right now at the very least, and even that would be conservative.
I’ve got it as 1. Stras 2. Santana (don’t buy the glove, but will be a fine 3B) 3. Brown 4. Trout 5. Stanton for the moment.
i said, "come tuesday"
ie- not including Stras and Stanton… see my post below… Trout is close to my top 5. didn’t even realize it.
oh, that's fair
I’m still including them for rookie purposes for the moment, but if I’m nice I’ll add a couple of extra names to the list to make everybody happy.
Bat Only?
I think it’s a legit debate at this point.
If you include defensive value though this is a pretty tough sell…
maybe
I think Trout grades out as a better pure hitter, makes more contact. Decker has more power. Would still probably take Trout there.
But if you look at it bat only, it’s not really a fair comparison at all. Trout is an ultra-fast center fielder. Decker is a corner outfielder at best, and by the time he reaches the majors, I’m not even sure you’ll be able to say that much. Just a huge difference in their value, and you have to take their bats in their respective contexts.
oh, lol
Sorry, somebody else mentioned Decker and I was thinking of him. Let me do that again for Singleton.
Couldn’t do it for Singleton either. He’s even more limited defensively than Decker, as he is already a first baseman . . .the defensive adjustments alone would mean that Singleton would have to be perhaps the greatest minor league hitter of all time to equal what Trout has been this year.
But if we take things out of context . . .maybe for Singleton. Trout’s numbers in pro ball have been utterly staggering. Singleton has a better eye, more raw power, maybe you give him the edge there. But it’s close enough to the point where I wouldn’t even bothering making the comp, because the positional values are so different.
it hardly matters
it goes like:
trout>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>decker>singleton
there is such a sizable gap there it’s hardly worth an argument

No
He’d still have the same question marks regarding his body and his future defensive value as he did entering the season. Hitting well in the Cal league would do little to change his stock (for me at least).

Gotta disagree JD
There isn’t anything wrong with grading/ranking players now, as long as you use all of the data/scouting info on a player and not just this two month sample as your only data. Two months isn’t enough to truly change opinions too drastically, but it can easily help verify things we believed to be true about prospects, both positively and negatively. I know for myself in the grade change thread almost every single grade change for me is only a half/third of a grade, like a B to B+ or C+ to B-, etc. I can even buy a two notch jump for a guy in the case of a toolsy type showing translation of tools to skills or refinement of a thrower to a pitcher for raw arms.
http://bullpenbanter.com
idk
There isn’t a problem with evaluating players after that time. But a player’s stock, at least in my opinion, isn’t changing dramatically based off two months of play. Again, there are outliers, but to me, it is ridiculous to throw out a few years worth of data based on a few good months.
One name that comes to mind is Moustakas. He has a great draft pedigree, and the early showing has been great, but He isn’t a top 10 prospect all of a sudden because of two months. If he does it for a full year that’s different story.

Milwaukee spent $600,000 on this 2006 second-round pick, but watched him hit only .240 over 420 minor league games. Brewer was obviously miles away from becoming an actual Brewer, as his myriad tools never fully developed. Jun. 6 – 8:47 pm et
