Florida commit … seems signable … 6’4, 210 … throws hard … 14-0, 1.49, 120K in 85 IP for pret state finalist. BA #148, but projects well.

It was between Gibson, LBSU ss Devin Lohman and Arkansas southpaw Drew Smyly here for me. I can’t see Texas going all college player through the third round here.

Keith Law

Apparently they’re all over Littlewood. My assumption would be that they like his glove. There really aren’t many natural shortstops to be found in this draft, and Littlewood at least plays like one even if he doesn’t quite have all the tools that you want.

by mrkupe on Jun 5, 2010 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions

really?

most people seem to rave about his skill set…

by astrosfanforever on Jun 5, 2010 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Agree

I wouldn’t have taken Littlewood here after the Shipman pick. Too much raw talent between the two and maybe too much money after you add in Cowart and Parker.

I’m not a Littlewood fan either. His MLB.com report is pretty bad. His bat won’t carry him and his poor range will push him to 3B where I have Cowart playing to start his career. He doesn’t have much speed, his power might only be just average and his hitting ability doesn’t seem to be a plus. Sounds like a Pedro Feliz type at best(maybe even fewer HRs) but I could easily see him flaming out in the lower minors.

Being realistic, a college RHP that will sign for slot is the most likely pick after Cowart, Solis, Parker and Shipman. Kyle Blair or Thomas Royse would have been my choics. Probably Blair although he may not be a slot sign. But he won’t do better next year in the draft.
