Rest In Peace Coach
As most of you know, one of the greatest men to grace this planet passed away this evening. John Wooden, coach of UCLA through the most dominant stretch in not only college basketball, but in all of sports, died of natural causes at the age of 99. I know he was a basketball coach, but as Coach said: "What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball player." Share your thoughts, wishes, prayers, or simply pay your respects to Coach Wooden and his everlasting legacy.

always
very fan friendly, as much as anyone out there. until the past year or so when he could no longer do it, he would sign whatever items fans sent to him w/o charge and the turnaround would be short.

Wooden was one of those guys who undoubtedley knew how famous he was, but pretended he was just another guy. You could go up to him and talk to him as if he was another guy.
Something that i think most would like to see, one of the best announcers every announcing the passing of a very good friend and the greatest coach to ever grace the planet… Vin Scully to the Dodger crowd Friday night:

Wooden lived a full life(would have been 100 in October) and will be missed. RIP John Wooden

baseball
UCLA alum here, so it was definitely profound to know learn that he lost.
I think it was stated by him somewhere, but baseball was ahead of basketball on the sports he loved I believe. IIRC, he actually turned down playing baseball professionally to go to Purdue
It would definitely fit his personality though. He’s been a critic of dunks and 3 point shots, and much of baseball’s philosophy – such as patience at the plate, would certainly fit with many of his principles
