Random Draft Thought
Kevin Goldstein has the Twins picking Mike Kvasnicka, University of Minnesota catcher/outfielder, in the first round.
As a Twins fan, and looking ahead at my own Shadow Draft plans, I'm of two minds on this. I like Kvasnicka, but I see him as more of a supplemental or second round guy, and picking him at 21 seems an overdraft. On the other hand, I like it when the Twins pick up local players, there's a good chance Kvasnicka won't be there by the time the Twins pick again at 71, and he's a pretty good prospect in his own right as a catcher with offensive potential.
If the Twins really like Kvasnicka, should they pick him in the first round even if someone like A.J. Cole or Brett Eibner is available? Or should they gamble that he'll still be there in the second round?

Twins
need to take BPA, and not even factor in where he’s from.
That leads you take guys like Glen perkins 1 pick before Phillip Hughes in 2004.
Phil Hughes was too expensive, plus the Twins had 3 1st round draft picks,
Being able to sign picks was big that year. Twins don’t need a catcher though.
"I couldn't do that. Could you do that? Why can they do it? Who are those guys?"
middle infielders
I’d probably spend several of my top picks on middle infield help… preferably college polished guys that could make the show much quicker…
I'd gamble that he's available in the 2nd
Kvasnicka plays the position(s) where the Twins have solid depth (OF & C) and if he’s not the BPA (he’s not one of the 21 best players in the draft) go with someone else

I'm always of the belief that you take the guys you believe in
We generally worry way too much about the idea of overdrafting, especially in a sport where you can’t trade picks. You draft the guys that you think you can turn into assets, not what others think you need.

I’m a strong believer in not drafting early based on who won’t be there later. That leads to overvaluing certain players who you target, even if they are lower on your draft board than others. In a draft like this, it’s impossible to know who will be there later, so you have to draft your highest player on your board depending on your budget, then go from there.
i'm hoping for Wimmers, or Workman
Wow Blackburn makes nearly identical money as Baker does now....

It's so hard to guess what the Twins will do....
They tend to pick collage pitchers and high school tool guys early. But a team that “overdrafts” Revere one year on the cheap and two years later pays above slot for Gibson can’t be predicted.
I’d guess the Twins have some 3 or 4 names they hope drop to them, guys like Bryce Brentz, Justin O’Conner, Alex Wimmers, or Matt Harvey. If all are off the board they may not see a big difference between Kvasnicka ( a high second round pick imo) and the rest. So I could see them picking Kvasnicka if other top choices are gone.

twins
In their pitchers, they love good fundamentals. Guys who throw strikes, guys who keep the ball on the ground.
I think they probably really like Asher Woj . . .the Twins aren’t afraid to take on a guy who needs a bit of rounding out into a starting pitcher. One guy I think they might REALLY like is Mike Foltynewicz . . .a Midwest guy so you know the Twins have seen him, and he’s got the sinker that they love to see.
Once in a while they step out of the box
and select someone like Shooter Hunt. A year or two ago I remember one of their personel people saying they need more power arms. And sure enough, they selected some.
If the Twins feel they need something more like “power” or “good glove infielders” as examples, then they may take more risk in selecting the guys that have a lot of said quality but more deficiencies in other areas.
I'll take Eibner if there
4-5 today 3 HR 7 rbi.
the real question is
Will you take him as a hitter or a pitcher?
I think hitter probably has the edge for the moment, especially due to the lack of enticing college bats in this class. Then again, a fastball that reaches into the mid-90s and good secondary pitches . . .augh . . .
