Jason Kipnis
I'm curious if anyone has thoughts on Jason Kipnis?
John ranked him 11th in CLE's system coming into the year, with a C- (borderline B+) grade.
So far in 2010, between 2 months at hi A and a few games at AA, he is hitting .303/.393/.484 with 7 hr's and 3 sb's.
Questions: With Luis Valbuena's struggles, does Kipnis have the inside track for the 2011 CLE starting second base job? What kind of stats could he put up? (or, who are some major league comps)
Thanks, I love you

I don’t think Kipnis will compete for the 2nd base job untill 2011. I could see him getting a late season call up to AAA this year and starting there in 2011. Don’t forget that this is his full pro season playing 2nd base, and though the reports have been positive, I’m sure he still needs to learn a few things.
As far as comps go, it’s difficult. Maybe Kelly Johnson — the 07 and 08 version.
2011 is way too early. Think 2012. Of course this assumes that Jason Donald doesn’t pan out too, in which case the Indians will have an interesting situation on their hands.

Hasn't Donald pretty much not panned out already?
He hasn’t hit well since Double-A in 2008, he looks pretty overmatched in Cleveland right now, and at this point he probably looks like a bench piece more than anything. I don’t think that Donald will be getting in the way of Kipnis or Carlos Rivero.

Is getting very close to falling off the prospect map altogether. It’s always been potential with him, not results. Repeating AA and still not performing is going to get him passed, and I’m not sure he can stick at SS as it is.
