Tim Collins
i realize that due to his size (5'7",160) he is almost certainly destined to be a reliever which somewhat dimishes the luster, but ma gawd is this kid (20) hard to hit.
his career stats (in AA now):
14-9, 176 ip, 120 hits, 79 bb, 262 k's, 10 hr allowed.

Those are crazy stats…but check out Henderson Alvarez. He WILL be a starter and has equally impressive numbers. In 244.2 minor league innings he has a K/BB of 177/42. He’s allowed 8 HRs in those innings, 4 of which came in his last start where he was HAMMERED. He allowed 6 ER in 3.1 innings and his ERA spiked to 2.42. Just crazy!! One of my favourite prospects.
Your post has nothing to do with the topic at hand...
Keep in mind that Collins is giving up way under a hit per inning, for his career is striking out close to 12 K/9. Henderson Alvarez is not at all similar.
Undrafted free agent.
That’s quite a find for Toronto – Collins signed as an undrafted free agent.
Collins has 41 strikeouts against 10 walks in 24 innings so far this year – you have to be concerned about the 4 home runs allowed, though the sample size is still quite small.
Collins, who has never started a game as a pro, turns 21 in August so there is really no need to rush. Nice find – very interesting prospect.
Reminds me somewhat of Kyler Newby (before last season)
Big difference in that Newby is 6-4, but he was drafted in the 50th round, and in his first few seasons, he had 164.1 IP, 226 K, 65 BB, and 5 HR allowed. Not sure what comparisons can really be drawn. But that was just someone I knew of off the top of my head. Probably not a wildly uncommon phenomenon, although Newby did reach the majors (sent down without pitching though), so if he is a comp, it is a probably good for Collins.
Could they make him a closer?

updated career #'s for the kid wonder
182 ip, 123 hits, 82 walks, 272 k’s.
2nd youngest pitcher in double a.
Could maybe see Collins seeing AAA this season
He’s gotten over the hump of getting his new pitch going and has been lights out his last seven outings. Newly installed as New Hampshire’s closer as well.
