Fantasy Q; 3 young catchers with loads of talent
These three guys should all be playing in the bigs within a couple of weeks. I don't recall a glut of good hitting catchers coming around like this anytime recently. It should be very exciting to see what these guys can do.
My question to you all is this. Who provides the most offensive for their respective team for the remainder of THIS season? This is an extremely tough choice for me and I'm looking for some help.
Thanks...

Is this a fantasy question?
Mind labeling it clearly as such in the topic please?
Not looking to single you out or anything, but I was clicking on this thread expecting a conversation about prospects . . .not a request for help for your fantasy team. It kind of sets a bad precedent.
Not sure if you are asking about Miguel Montero (Arizona catcher, not a prospect) or Jesus Montero (Yankees catcher, prospect). If it’s Miguel Montero then you have to take him over the others, as he’s the known quantity who has produced over a full season.
If it’s Jesus Montero you’re talking about, of your three options I’d probably roll with Santana – don’t think Montero will be up so soon and Santana’s raw power gives him a better chance to surprise unsuspecting pitchers. If you are desperate for batting average, I think Posey will post the better batting average. Hope that helps.
Well lets just turn this into a talk about young catchers.
There is a ton of young catchers in baseball, has there ever been this much young talent at the position.
Devin Mesoraco
Yadier Molina
Mike Napoli
Jeff Mathis
Hank Conger
Jason Castro
Kurt Suzuki
Brian McCann
Geovany Soto
Carlos Santana
Buster Posey
Miguel Montero
Matt Wieters
Nick Hundley
Jesus Montero
Will Myers
Derek Norris
Tony Sanchez
Austin Romine
Wilson Ramos
I know I forgot several people but this is all I could think of off the top of my head.
Yadi is my hero
Coming from a Jays perspective catcher is certainly a deep position in the organisation
We have solid to good prospects at all levels going through Arencibia, Jeroloman, Gomes, d’Arnaud, Jimenez, Perez and Nessy. Arguably have three of our top 10 prospects in Arencibia/d’Arnaud/Perez and the likes of Jeroloman and Jimenez are making strides this season.
Deepest i’ve ever seen the catching talent in the organisation but will depend on development as were a step behind the onrush of young catchers.

One is not like the others.
Montero, 27, has appeared in 292 games as a Major Leaguer and is recovering from an injury. He had a plus bat in 2009 hitting .294-16-59 with a .832 OPS. He sprained his knee on April 11 and still may be 3-4 weeks away from the Arizona lineup. When he returns to the lineup, you can probably expect something along the lines of his 2009 numbers, pro-rated for the missed games.
As between Santana and Posey, Posey has already been recalled and is off to a 6-12 start in his first 3 starts. Santana will probably get the call in the first half of June. I think Posey is going to be a better hitter overall than Santana, but that may just be me. Both have pretty much owned Triple A pitching this year.
Posey
should post very solid numbers across the board.
Santana’s still working on his defence and might not be up until September. More of a rush getting Posey up because San Fran’s actually playing for something and need his bat. Cleveland can afford to let him work on his dee.
Montero – As pointed out, he posted pretty good numbers last year. I think he’s going to see split time for the rest of the year, maybe 4 games out of the week and some PH’g in other games unless he catches fire. Like to see how he rebounds after the injury before re-annointing him the starter.
The DBacks will likely re-institute the platoon
RHP: Montero
LHP: Snyder
One of them will probably be dealt at the deadline to a contender.
September?
Whoever is even hinting at Santana not coming up until September is a fool. Santana will be up sometime in this month of June… likely near the front end. They’re going to control his Super-2 status, that’s it.
So how about this...
Matt Wieters, Carlos Santana, or Buster Posey?
A year or two ago it seemed like the answer to this question would be an easy one, but now it’s not so clear, is it?
Do you guys all still take Wieters over those guys for sure?
as Mr Kupe said yes, its JESUS MONTERO !!!
Wow Blackburn makes nearly identical money as Baker does now....
